The highly anticipated next hero for Overwatch 2 is making his debut with Season 18, but the timing of his free trial is causing quite a stir in the community.

Since the introduction of Mauga, Overwatch has offered players opportunities to test upcoming heroes before their official release, utilizing community feedback for final adjustments. These trials are typically scheduled several weeks in advance of a hero’s launch. However, the free trial period for Wuyang has raised eyebrows due to its unusual timing.

According to a blog post from July 22, the development team revealed that Wuyang’s trial will take place from August 14 to August 18, leaving little time between the trial and Season 18’s launch.

Confusion Surrounds Wuyang’s Hero Trial

At this point, details about Wuyang are limited, though he is confirmed to be a support hero hailing from China. The developers noted in their announcement that his unique damage capabilities will set him apart from previous support heroes.

Described as a “rebellious Support Hero from Wuxing University’s Water College, ” Wuyang embodies rhythm and flow-based control within gameplay. His abilities promise fluid healing capabilities, hybrid damage, and enhanced mobility, indicating a different approach to the support role.“Expect a learning curve with some serious splash potential, ” the developers stated.

However, the timing of his trial has sparked confusion, particularly as it coincides with the final days of Season 17. Players have taken to social media to express their frustration:

  • “A week before the season makes NO sense to me… won’t it just spoil his actual release?” asked one user on Twitter.
  • “Of course they make it the end of the season instead of mid-season like they usually do. What is the point if there’s only a week to receive feedback?” another user commented.
  • “What’s the point of having the trial like a week before his release? Guess I’m not logging on for another month, ” someone else added.

As it stands, the rationale behind this close timing remains unclear. Players are left with numerous inquiries regarding potential adjustments and the efficacy of this trial setup ahead of Wuyang’s official debut. The gaming community eagerly awaits August 14 to discover if Wuyang lives up to the hype and truly showcases the innovative gameplay that the developers have promised.
