Hirabayashi added, clarifying that the sequel is designed to be a natural continuation of the original narrative. However, Kamiya gently reminded fans that their intention is not merely to fulfill expectations, but to create an engaging experience consistent with the series’ legacy.

The original Okami was released nearly 20 years ago as of February 2025 and enjoyed an HD remaster for Nintendo Switch and PS4/5.
Advancements in Graphics
Kiyohiko Sakata provided insights indicating that the sequel may leverage the Resident Evil engine, a trend also seen in Street Fighter 6. This could significantly enhance the visual quality.
“When the original Okami was created for the PS2, there was no concept for the soft, hand-drawn style, which the team envisioned, making it difficult to realize, ” Sakata acknowledged.“Advancements in technology now allow us to achieve what we envisioned back then, possibly to an even greater extent.”
