To successfully complete the With a Trace quest, players must accomplish the following key tasks:

Reach the Barren Clearing.
Find indications of who was responsible for disabling the ARC machines.

Initially, players will navigate to the Barren Clearing, which is distinctly marked on the Blue Gate map. Make sure to consult the preceding image if you’re uncertain about its location.

Upon arriving at the Barren Clearing, players must search for clues around a downed ARC device located slightly south of this area.

The environment surrounding the Barren Clearing is expansive, frequented by hostile ARC Wasps and Hornets. It is advisable to eliminate these enemies, including any Snitches, to ensure a safer exploration of the area. In addition to safety, defeating these foes yields valuable materials for Workshop enhancements. When investigating the ARC, be prepared to hold your position briefly; a smoke grenade can be a helpful tool if you’re concerned about other players encroaching on your territory.

After gathering information on the ARC device, your next objective will be to examine the Adorned Wreckage, which lies just south of the Barren Clearing.

When you reach the Adorned Wreckage, you cannot miss the large ARC structure resembling a rocket. To complete this phase, simply move close to it to initiate the investigation, which will also allow you to scavenge the area for useful loot—including quality gear and resources (look out for a weapon crate if you choose to climb the wreckage).

Following this, the quest will prompt you to investigate the final objective: the communications device.
