A First Foothold Mission Overview
To successfully finish the “A First Foothold”quest, you need to accomplish the following objectives located within the Blue Gate region, in any order you prefer:
- Stabilize the observation deck located near the Ridgeline.
- Enable the communications terminal near the Olive Grove.
- Rotate the satellite dishes atop the Church roof, which lies to the north of the Data Vault.
- Nail down the roof plates on the Raider structure found near Trapper’s Glade.
As this is an early-stage quest, it’s advisable to utilize a free loadout to conserve your stash items. Consider heading to the nearest area of interest after spawning and prioritize completing the objectives rather than maximizing your runs. For efficiency, it’s also wise to holster your weapon to increase your running speed, especially if you plan to finish multiple objectives in one outing.

Objective A: Stabilize the Observation Deck Near the Ridgeline

Once you approach it, you’ll be able to interact and select “Stabilize Deck.”
Objective B: Enable the Comms Terminal Near the Olive Grove
Next, head southwest towards the Olive Grove to locate the Comms Terminal. This region can be particularly hazardous due to the presence of ARCs, such as the menacing Rocketeer and Bombardier, patrolling around the Olive Grove and Ruined Homestead. Your best strategy is to navigate around these two spots and move towards the marked area:
As you near the terminal, look for a bright yellow monitor—this is your comms terminal:
Interact with it to activate the terminal; this process takes a few seconds, so ensure you’re not in pursuit by any ARCs.
Objective C: Rotate the Satellite Dishes on the Church Roof, North of the Data Vault
Find the Church with satellite dishes located northwest of the Data Vault. Notably, its architectural style resembles that of a traditional church. Navigate to the exact spot indicated on your map:
This structure has flag decorations at the top, as well as medium-sized satellite dishes. You can ascend the building using the platforms located at the rear.
When you reach the satellite dish, you’ll be able to rotate it.
Objective D: Nail Down the Roof Plates on the Raider Structure Near Trapper’s Glade
Finally, just south of Trapper’s Glade, you’ll encounter a Raider structure adorned with a red and yellow flag hanging from a dish antenna. Refer to the map below for the precise location of this structure:
Ascend the structure and reach its roof, where you’ll find a generator and several antenna markers. Nail down the roof plates by interacting with them to complete the objective.
