The King’s Gambit represents the 19th major quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. In this mission, players step into the shoes of Henry, who must covertly gather intelligence on Sigismund during a pivotal council meeting. To blend in, players assume the role of waiters tasked with serving wine to various nobles, including the king himself.

Prior to gaining access to the council, players must secure a proper outfit along with a Royal Waiter Certificate. Be mindful that this quest features a hidden timer, emphasizing the necessity to act swiftly. This guide provides a comprehensive walkthrough to help you accomplish your objectives efficiently.

1. Completing the King’s Gambit Quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

To successfully navigate the King’s Gambit quest, players should aim to complete the following key objectives:

  • Consult with Mint Master Vavak to discover the entry to the City Council.
  • Acquire the king’s waiter’s certificate and appropriate attire.
  • Gain access to the City Council.
  • Serve wine to the Kuttenberg councillors.
  • Attend to the requests of King Sigismund of Luxembourg.

1.1 Discovering Access to the City Council via Mint Master Vavak

Proceed to Kuttenberg City Hall during daylight and approach the guard. Simply state, “I have an appointment, ” to gain entry without hassle.

Once inside, engage in conversation with Ulrich Vavak of Neuhaus. The specific dialogue choices are inconsequential, as he will ultimately reveal the necessary steps to infiltrate the council meeting. Here, you’ll need to acquire a waiter’s certificate and uniform through less than honest means.

1.2 Securing the King’s Waiter’s Certificate and Attire

To obtain the required certificate and attire, you’ll need to locate Franta Kuldaun. His location varies throughout the day, so keep an eye on the red map marker labeled “C.”

Advance time in hour-long increments until Franta relocates, typically found at inns post-18:00. It’s wise to save your game prior to interacting with him, as you may face skill checks. Wearing charismatic or lightweight clothing can increase your chances of success.

You can choose dialogue options like “I’ll do the job, ” or leverage a charisma check if your initial attempts do not succeed. Successfully navigating this conversation will yield the necessary clothing and certificate. Failure, however, may lead Franta to demand a payment of 1000 Groschen.

Note: Utilizing charismatic attire or engaging in pickpocketing during nighttime increases your chances of obtaining the items.

1.3 Gaining Entry to the City Council

With your Royal Waiter’s Hat, Coat, and Trousers secured, head to the Scribe’s office and report to Scribe Majordomo. Ensure you remove any weapons or heavy uniforms prior to entry, as these items will prevent your admission.

1.4 Attending to the Kuttenberg Councillors

Serving the council members is straightforward, provided you adhere to their requests. The council meeting spans roughly 20 minutes, during which you must promptly serve wine and respond to various demands. Failure to do so results in a game over screen after 8 minutes when Majordomo comes to confront you.

Here are some essential tips for your service:

  • Wine can be found on a table in the corner of the room.
  • Respond swiftly when a councillor requests wine.
  • Serve the correct type of wine, either red or white.
  • Avoid serving Adam of Zarzits.

By following these guidelines, you’ll ensure a successful performance. Failure to adequately serve will jeopardize your mission, requiring a repeat of the steps.

During the meeting, certain attendees may request personal items from the back room. For instance, the Bailiff seeks a silver goblet, while Franz Rosenthal requests gloves. You can locate the silver goblet labeled “Stolen Cup” on a desk and the gloves labeled “Lambskin Gloves” on a small table nearby.

Upon concluding your service, a cutscene will feature King Sigismund, after which the gameplay shifts to Godwin, who must rally a team of allies.

1.5 Serving King Sigismund of Luxembourg

As the mission progresses, Henry’s focus turns to attending to the needs of King Sigismund and Markvart von Aulitz. Any neglect in following orders will lead to another game over screen, resulting in expulsion from the meeting.

Note: Remember, Monastic wine is red while Tokaji wine is white.

Initially, Sigismund will request red Monastic wine. After serving him, stand back and listen attentively. Despite earlier assurance, Markvart will then demand white wine, which you must promptly pour.

The conclusion unveils a cutscene where the king invites you to drink with him. Responses like “To victory!” lead into another cutscene that transitions back to Raborsch, setting the stage for the subsequent main quest.
