Criticism Surrounding BADVILLAIN’s Low Album Sales and High Views: ‘Forced Virality’ Debate

BADVILLAIN and BPM Entertainment are currently facing criticism.

On June 8, internet users convened in a forum thread that condemned BADVILLAIN’s debut. The writer initially shared a news article describing BADVILLAIN’s unexpected success and how they surpassed fourth-generation frontrunner NewJeans in terms of YouTube views.

“A controversial rookie group is emerging in the music industry.

BADVILLAIN, a girl group produced by MC Mong, has displayed a meteoric rise and surpassed NewJeans’ records with their debut album “OVERSTEP,”which was released on the 3rd of June.

Their title track MV for “Bad Villain”has garnered 8.45 million views within 12 hours since its release. They have also surpassed the 5 million views that NewJeans had achieved in the same timeframe with “Bubble Gum.”

The report went on to mention its members Emma, Chloe Young, HY’E, INA, YunSeo, Vin, and Kelly. It further stated that Cha Ga Won, the major shareholder of BPM, played a significant role in the group’s progress through his investments.

Despite the report, netizens expressed their dissatisfaction with the mention of NewJeans in the article. Numerous individuals were frustrated and raised concerns about the group’s sudden appearance on community sites.
