Dafne Keen acknowledged a Spider-Man actor for their help in keeping her Deadpool and Wolverine cameo under wraps.
In the coming days, the duo of Deadpool and Wolverine will shake up the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the franchise moves towards the final projects of Phase 5.
Despite much anticipation for the movie’s famous cameos, such as the enigmatic Lady Deadpool, fans were taken aback by the surprise appearance of Dafne Keen, a major figure in the Wolverine franchise, which was unveiled in the final trailer.
Despite criticism from some for spoiling her cameo, Keen herself is proud of her ability to keep it a secret, attributing her success to following in the footsteps of a certain Spider-Man actor.
“I had a fantastic time keeping it a secret. I had to do numerous press interviews for a recent job I completed,”Keen shared with Entertainment Weekly. “In every interview, I was asked about it, and it was quite amusing to lie about it. I have to give credit to Andrew Garfield for inspiring me, as he is a master at this.”
Keen was alluding to Garfield’s need to evade numerous inquiries regarding his potential appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
The actor was well-known for keeping his role in No Way Home a secret, even going as far as to directly deceive his co-star from The Amazing Spider-Man, Emma Stone, when she questioned him about his appearance in the Marvel film.
Prior to Keen’s trailer debut, there were already speculations that she was part of the film due to Wolverine’s line by the campfire, “Trust me, kid, I’m no hero.”It was suggested that Wolverine was addressing Laura, also known as X-23, his biological daughter whom he sacrificed his life to protect in Logan.
After Deadpool and Wolverine hinted that the Wolverine featured in the movie is actually an alternate version of Laura’s Logan, many fans speculated that this line was meant for her.
During the same fireside moment that the line was delivered in other trailers, Keen is shown, proving that they were right.
Despite Laura’s obvious differences from the child left by Wolverine’s variant at the end of Logan, Keen admitted to feeling stressed about reprising her role as she wasn’t sure she could capture the same essence.
Keen described the experience by saying, “I thought to myself, ‘I may have forgotten how to play her. She’s no longer a part of me.’”However, as they dove into a intense scene, Keen admitted to feeling anxious. Yet, once the crew called for action, it was as if they were back filming Logan. It was as if no time had passed, despite it being eight years.
Despite some believing that revealing Keen in the final trailer was a mistake, Marvel is well-known for surprising audiences with unexpected twists. Therefore, it’s possible that Wolverine’s appearance as Laura could lead to an even more significant cameo moment.
The highly anticipated Deadpool & Wolverine film will hit theaters on July 26.
