Recent rumors suggest that a remaster of Dark Souls 3 is already in the works and is set for a 2026 release. Various reports and leaks indicate that this beloved title from FromSoftware is currently deep in development, aiming to bring the acclaimed gameplay and aesthetic of Dark Souls 3 to a new audience.

When the original Dark Souls launched, it took some time to gain traction. However, once its unique blend of challenging gameplay and rich lore resonated with players, the franchise became a defining hallmark in the gaming industry, particularly in discussions surrounding difficulty in video games.

While Dark Souls II did not achieve the same level of acclaim, Dark Souls 3 rejuvenated interest in the series and reinforced FromSoftware’s status as a cornerstone developer in the gaming landscape. According to emerging reports, the development team is now opting to sidestep the second installment entirely, focusing instead on remastering the third game.

Dark Souls 3 Remaster Slated for 2026

Dark Souls 3, which launched on March 24, 2016, still holds up remarkably well in today’s gaming environment. The anticipated remaster is expected to coincide with the title’s tenth anniversary, making 2026 a fitting timeframe for its release.

According to notable industry leaker Kurakasis, there’s an unnamed project identified by the codename ‘FMC’ in development at FromSoftware. Their intelligence suggests this project is sufficiently advanced, virtually confirming its release within the 2026 window.

Importantly, this upcoming title is being designed as a multi-platform release, indicating that it will not be limited to a specific console, such as the rumored Switch 2 exclusive, Duskbloods. Fans of Bloodborne should note that publishers often retain exclusive rights to FromSoftware titles, complicating the likelihood of any cross-platform availability.

Regrettably for Bloodborne aficionados, it appears that Dark Souls 3 will be prioritized for a remaster.

While there remains a slim chance this title could be an entirely new game, the evidence strongly leans towards it being a remaster of Dark Souls 3. This speculation aligns with earlier leaks dating back to 2024, which hinted at a remastered edition.

In November 2024, Nick Baker from XboxEra noted in a stream that a remaster was in the pipeline, although details regarding the exact release date were limited. The corroborating information from both Baker and Kurakasis lends credibility to the idea that Dark Souls 3 will soon be reintroduced for modern platforms.

As we look ahead, it remains to be seen the extent of enhancements that the remaster will feature, especially given that FromSoftware has spent the last decade honing their craft. Fans are eager to see how the remaster will reflect the evolution of gaming standards and what new elements may be introduced.
