Renowned for his work, Kim Byung-woo openly acknowledged the challenges associated with adapting the beloved web novel into film format.“Nurturing this project from its inception, I was faced with the daunting task of balancing a complex narrative with a two-hour runtime, ” he admitted, emphasizing the amount of deliberation that went into the adaptation process. His priority was to harmonize the elements of reality and fantasy within the story.

Addressing the intricacies of condensing a comprehensive narrative, Director Kim stated, “The pressure to fit an expansive story into a limited time frame was immense. While some narrative elements had to be left out, my goal was to ensure the film feels complete and satisfying.”

Controversial Elements and Cast Tensions
Among the film’s controversial aspects is the portrayal of Lee Ji-hye wielding a gun. In response, Director Kim remarked, “As a filmmaker, it’s my responsibility to breathe life into characters and introduce various action elements. I understand the passionate reactions from fans; however, I am confident that the film will resonate, and their concerns will be alleviated upon viewing.” The cast echoed similar feelings, acknowledging the pressure from the established fan base but remaining optimistic about the final product.
Cast Insights and Experiences
Ahn Hyo-seop, stepping into the role of Kim Dok-ja, reflected on his first impression of the script: “I was intrigued about how this adaptation would come alive. Although there was a natural pressure stemming from the original material, I chose to focus on bringing my interpretation of Kim Dok-ja to life.”
In the role of the determined Jung Hee-won, Nana noted, “The action sequences were particularly demanding, but the synergy among the cast and crew was remarkable. Our director envisioned a film underscored by raw effort rather than glorified violence, and I believe we’ve successfully captured that essence.”
