Deliver Me: Explanation of the Netflix Series

Are you in search of a new show to binge-watch this week? Netflix has certainly delivered with Deliver Me, a gripping drama with a raw and intense tone.

When it comes to streaming content, Netflix is not hesitant to explore more provocative themes in its original content. This is evident in their recent release Baby Reindeer, which, like many limited series, can be emotionally challenging to watch.

The platform has now broadened its approach to include international content, with the addition of Deliver Me to its streaming options for viewers.

However, what is the premise of Deliver Me, who are the actors involved, and most importantly – is it worth the time to watch?

What Is Deliver Me About?

The novel Deliver Me follows a group of teenagers who are recruited by a local gang and become entangled in a deadly shooting. This leads to their neglect by the country’s care system.

According to the complete summary of the show, it revolves around a boy who is shot while trying to escape a neighborhood gang. Detective Farid then targets Mehdi, a small-time leader who has a reputation for recruiting underage individuals.

The focus is on a boy lying face down in front of a swing-set, his life slowly draining from a gaping wound in his head. His best friend stands behind him, trembling with a warm gun in hand.

The inspiration for Deliver Me comes from the novel with the same title written by Malin Persson Giolito.

Deliver Me in English

Both the original Swedish language and English dubbing versions of Deliver Me are available for streaming on Netflix.

Alternatively, the show can be enjoyed by English-speaking viewers with the aid of subtitles.

The whole Stockholm-based series, consisting of five episodes each lasting 45 minutes, was shot in early 2023.

Is Deliver Me Worth Watching?

Although Deliver Me has not yet received a Rotten Tomatoes score, the initial reviews are positive.

Joel Keller wrote at Decider that “Deliver Me”is a heartbreaking story about two teenagers who were failed by the system, resulting in tragic consequences. However, this heartbreaking aspect also makes it an effective thriller.

Karina Adelgaard, a writer for Heaven of Horror, expressed that Deliver Me explores the impact of difficult decisions on childhood friendships and highlights the consequences of a society’s failure to safeguard its youth.

Johnathon Wilson, from Ready Steady Cut, concurs with the statement that “Deliver Me”is an essential watch that provides a realistic portrayal of troubled youth. However, viewers should be aware that it may be more of an endurance test rather than an enjoyable experience.

Now on Netflix, you can find Deliver Me along with a plethora of incredible movies, TV shows, true crime documentaries, and K-dramas to stream during this month.
