On Sunday, June 9, 2024 at 11:15 pm JST, the fifth episode of the Demon Slayer Hashira Training Arc, titled I Even Ate Demons…, was aired. In this episode, Tanjiro completes his training under Mitsuri and Iguro before embarking on Sanemi’s intense training program. Here, he is reunited with Genya and Zenitsu.
The tense situation between the Shinazugawa siblings continues to escalate, prompting Tanjiro to step in and ultimately leading to a physical altercation with Sanemi. As a consequence, Tanjiro is prohibited from training with Sanemi and instead turns to Himejima for guidance, training alongside Zenitsu.

Demon Slayer: Hashira Training Arc – Episode 5 Opening Events: Tanjiro Joins Training Under Love Hashira Mitsuri and Snake Hashira Iguro
Continuing from the previous episode, episode 5 of the Demon Slayer Hashira Training Arc begins with Tanjiro’s arrival to join the Love Hashira, Mitsuri Kanroji, in her training. Mitsuri greets him warmly and offers him snacks, including pancakes which she even feeds him. Once he has finished eating, she invites him to take part in the training.
The focus turns to Tanjiro and his companions as they prepare to train in their dancing attire. Mitsuri has them engage in a series of dance moves and stretches to improve their agility and precision in combat. However, Tanjiro notices that her stretching techniques resemble more of a forceful training approach rather than a fluid one.
Following his rigorous flexibility training with Kanroji, Tanjiro finally reaches the training grounds of the Snake Hashira, Iguro Obanai. As Tanjiro approaches, Iguro greets him and mentions that he has been anticipating his arrival. He quickly interrupts Tanjiro’s greetings to reveal that he is aware of his training under Kanroji. The narrative briefly shows Iguro receiving a message from Kanroji, stating that she had a great time training Tanjiro, which immediately triggers Iguro’s anger.
Tanjiro is informed by him that he will not show him any mercy. The Hashira training for Tanjiro commences on the ground where a group of trainees are bound. He instructs Tanjiro to practice swinging his sword while carefully avoiding the tied-up trainees.
Demon Slayer Hashira Training Arc: Episode 5 – Tanjiro Completes Iguro’s Training
In episode 5 of the Hashira Training Arc in Demon Slayer, Tanjiro, who is initially fearful, starts his training with Iguro. Iguro hands him a wooden sword and shows him the necessary technique. However, Tanjiro’s cautious and gradual efforts begin to annoy Iguro, prompting them to engage in a sparring session. Unfortunately, Tanjiro’s focus is diverted to the bound trainees, causing him to hesitate and get struck by Iguro, who criticizes his indecisiveness.
Despite the cramped space, Tanjiro ponders how Iguro manages to contort his wooden sword while simultaneously dealing with the mental strain of evading the trainees. Eventually, the unbound trainees are in awe of Tanjiro’s unwavering determination, which serves as a source of motivation for them to intensify their training efforts.
Despite struggling for three days, Tanjiro eventually alters his approach on the fourth day by envisioning a real-life combat scenario. This adjustment proves to be effective, as he is able to skillfully dodge Iguro’s attack and successfully strike him, slicing the hem of Iguro’s haori. While Iguro acknowledges that Tanjiro’s training is now complete, he also scolds him for being too familiar with Kanroji, leaving Tanjiro perplexed by Iguro’s animosity towards him.
Demon Slayer Hashira Training Arc Episode 5: Tanjiro Stands Up for Genya and Fights Sanemi
In the fifth episode of the Demon Slayer Hashira Training Arc, Tanjiro makes his way towards the dojo of Wind Hashira Sanemi Shinazugawa. On his journey, he comes across Zenitsu in a state of panic, begging for Tanjiro’s assistance in escaping.
Despite Shinazugawa’s intervention and knocking out Zenitsu, Tanjiro is still instructed to carry him. He then proceeds to join Sanemi’s grueling training regimen, where he notes the particularly severe treatment compared to Iguro’s training, which allowed for breaks.
After completing his training, Tanjiro witnesses a heated confrontation between Genya and Sanemi in the lobby. Sanemi mercilessly berates Genya, deeming him as feeble and proposing that he give up his role as a demon slayer. Genya confesses that he devoured a demon in order to keep fighting, which infuriates Sanemi and prompts him to launch an attack.
Tanjiro steps in to shield Genya from Sanemi’s attack, but the force of the blow forces both of them outside. Zenitsu observes the escalating confrontation, unsure of what to make of it. Sanemi warns Genya that he will inflict serious harm unless he resigns from the corps. However, Tanjiro stands up for Genya, advocating for him and promising to protect him from harm.
Despite Sanemi’s unrelenting assault, Tanjiro manages to defend against his attacks and even counterattacks. He urges Zenitsu to flee with Genya, who had warned them of Sanemi’s intentions. Thanks to Genya’s warning, Tanjiro is able to narrowly evade Sanemi’s next strike, receiving only a minor cut.
The Fifth Episode of the Demon Slayer Hashira Training Arc: Tanjiro’s Banning from Sanemi’s Training and His Joining of Himejima’s Training
In the final moments of Demon Slayer’s Hashira Training Arc episode 5, Genya makes an effort to stop Sanemi, only to be pulled away by Zenitsu. Zenitsu insults Sanemi, prompting Genya to defend his brother by throwing a punch. As tensions rise between Tanjiro and Sanemi, other trainees step in to try and diffuse the situation.
Despite facing consequences for his actions, Tanjiro’s training under Sanemi is suspended and he is ordered to avoid him. However, Genya persists in his training under Sanemi, but the unresolved tension between the brothers persists.
As Tanjiro and Zenitsu arrive at the training grounds of Gyomei Himejima, the Stone Hashira, they are joined by Inosuke and other trainees who are already there. Himejima warmly welcomes them, but they are taken aback by the rigorous nature of his training techniques. The episode concludes with them all gathered at a waterfall, ready to begin their intense training.
