Rematch, the latest addition to the football gaming genre, has come under fire from its player community due to the absence of crossplay functionality at launch. This oversight has left many players disappointed, especially when compared to competitors such as EA SPORTS FC 25, where cross-platform play is integrated.

Notably, Rematch allows users to engage in exhilarating 5v5 matches with the option to control a single player. During its beta testing phase, the game drew significant attention, peaking with 159, 865 concurrent users on Steam, highlighting its popularity among football enthusiasts.

Despite this success, the official launch on June 19 has not unfolded as positively as anticipated. Currently, Rematch holds a Mostly Positive rating on Steam. One of the main grievances among players is the lack of crossplay support. The developers at Sloclap attributed the setback to “unforeseen technical complexities, ” and they have responded with an update addressing the community’s concerns.

Crossplay as a Top Priority for Rematch Developers

In a recent communication, the Rematch team stated, “We understand many of you were looking forward to playing Rematch across platforms from day one. We did our utmost to include crossplay at launch, but Rematch is the studio’s first crossplay title, and we faced unforeseen technical complexities which prevented us from having this feature ready in time.” This statement was shared through an official blog post by the developers.

The team also issued an apology for not informing the community sooner about the issue: “We should have communicated as soon as it became apparent that crossplay wouldn’t be available at launch, and we’re sorry for the inconvenience and frustration it caused to some of our players. It’s very important for us that our players can enjoy Rematch with their friends, so along with bug fixes, crossplay is our absolute highest priority.”

Sloclap is currently working diligently on implementing the crossplay feature, with a basic version already in existence. However, they emphasize that further refinements are necessary before releasing it to the public. The developers have yet to provide a specific timeline for when players can expect this coveted feature, stating, “We’re committed to delivering this feature swiftly, and we’ll share a more precise deadline as soon as possible. All this takes time but we are doing our best to move forward quickly.”
