Resident Evil Requiem marks a high point in technical achievements utilizing the RE Engine, offering a diverse array of customization settings. While the PC version allows users to disable several post-processing effects, it does fall short on offering a straightforward option to turn off film grain. Fortunately, modding options are available to enhance the visual experience.

This guide will walk you through the process of disabling film grain in Resident Evil Requiem, resulting in a crisper and more refined image on your display.

How to Disable Film Grain in Resident Evil Requiem on PC

The renowned REFramework tool has been specifically updated for Resident Evil Requiem, enabling players to create and utilize mods seamlessly. One such mod, developed by Nexus Mods user asdt123123, effectively eliminates film grain from the game. Here’s how you can install it:

Step 1: Install REFramework

To get started, you need to install the REFramework by praydog to enable the mod functionality:

  • Visit the official GitHub page and download RE9.zip from the latest release under the Assets section.
  • Extract the contents of the zip file into your Resident Evil Requiem installation directory.

You are now prepared to proceed with the installation of the water grain mod!

Step 2: Install the “No Film Grain” Mod

Follow these steps to install the “No Film Grain” mod:

  • Navigate to the Nexus Mods page and download the mod’s zip file. A free account is required.
  • Extract the zip file (No Film Grain-18-1-0-0-1772264739.zip) into your Resident Evil Requiem installation folder.
  • Launch Resident Evil Requiem.
  • The REFramework interface will appear on the left side of your screen, which you can toggle visibility by pressing the Insert (Ins) key.
  • The mod is enabled by default, so no further actions are necessary.

For visual clarity, the mod’s effects can be seen in the comparison image below:

Notice the significant reduction of grain on elements such as mirrors, walls, and sinks. This enhancement becomes even more evident during gameplay.

For those interested in deeper analysis, I’ve also posted higher-resolution screenshots on Imgsli, where you can zoom in to see the differences closely.

Additional REFramework Features

Beyond mod capabilities, REFramework also includes various basic functionalities to improve your gaming experience in Resident Evil Requiem:

  • Free camera mode.
  • Field of View (FOV) adjustment.
  • Ability to disable vignette effects.
  • Improvements for ultrawide screen users.
  • Removal of black bars during ultrawide cutscenes.

All accolades for the development of REFramework go to praydog, whose contributions have greatly enriched the gaming experience.

How to Disable the Mod

If you ever wish to disable the film grain mod, simply follow these straightforward directions:

\RESIDENT EVIL requiem BIOHAZARD requiem\reframework\autorun

Once in the specified folder, remove the disable_film_grain.lua file. Should you decide to activate the mod again, this file is included in the original zip folder you downloaded.

This mod significantly enhances the picture quality in Resident Evil Requiem by eliminating distracting film grain, ultimately providing a much clearer visual experience. For the future, it would be beneficial if developers included an in-game toggle for film grain and other post-processing effects similar to the options available for chromatic aberration, depth of field, and lens flare.
