How to Disable AI Mode in Google Chrome

If you want to turn off the AI Mode options in Google Chrome’s address bar and new tab page, you can do so by modifying specific settings in the experimental flags. This tutorial will guide you through the steps required to completely disable the AI Mode features introduced in the latest updates for Windows 11 and macOS.

Understanding Google Chrome’s AI Mode Features

Recent updates from Google have introduced various AI-focused features aimed at enhancing user experience in Chrome. These include buttons for AI Mode that appear on the right side of the address bar and within the search box in new tabs. While these shortcuts aim to facilitate quicker access to AI-generated responses, some users may prefer the traditional search results instead.

Disabling these features requires accessing the experimental flags page, where several settings controlling the AI Mode are located. Below, we outline the necessary steps to effectively remove the AI Mode buttons from your Google Chrome interface.

Steps to Disable AI Mode Buttons

  1. Launch Google Chrome.

  2. In the address bar, enter the following URL and press Enter to access the flags page:

    chrome://flags/#ai-mode-omnibox-entry-point

  3. Find the “AI Mode Omnibox entrypoint” setting and set it to Disabled.

    chrome://flags/#hide-aim-omnibox-entrypoint-on-user-input

  5. Locate the “AI Entrypoint Disabled on User Input” option and select Disabled.

    chrome://flags/#omnibox-allow-ai-mode-matches

  7. Adjust the “Omnibox Allow AI Mode Matches” setting to Disabled.

  8. Enter the next URL:

    chrome://flags/#ntp-compose-entrypoint

  9. Finally, find the “NTP Compose Entrypoint” setting and set it to Disabled.

  10. To apply your changes, click the Relaunch button.

By following these steps, you will effectively remove the AI Mode buttons from the address bar and the new tab search box in Google Chrome. The next time you launch the browser, you will not see the AI Mode feature.
