Discover the Allure of *Where Winds Meet*: A Must-Play RPG on the Horizon
If you’re not familiar with Where Winds Meet, now is the time to change that. My recent experience at Gamescom 2025 provided a tantalizing glimpse into what promises to be one of the year’s most discussed role-playing games (RPGs).Even during a brief half-hour session, the game’s captivating features became immediately apparent.
A Tale in the Making
First unveiled at Gamescom 2022, Where Winds Meet is finally making its Western debut. This extraordinary RPG melds open-world exploration with dynamic action, drawing strong influences from Wuxia, a genre steeped in Chinese martial art fiction. The game’s narrative is set against the backdrop of tenth-century China, specifically during the tumultuous Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period.
Vast Worlds Await Exploration
Boasting an expansive world with approximately 150 hours of single-player content, the potential for immersive gameplay is staggering. My demo, however, limited my experience to just 30 minutes. I began with a mission that felt linear, characterized by a series of button prompts that required minimal interaction. However, once I broke free into the open world, the true magic of Where Winds Meet began to unfold.
Visually Stunning Environments
The environment is reminiscent of the design aesthetics found in *Assassin’s Creed*, yet it carries a darker undertone similar to *Sekiro*.The city I navigated was rich with detail, and I found myself mesmerized by its beauty.
The movement mechanics stand out as the highlight of the game. The exhilaration of double and triple jumping across rooftops creates a delightful sense of freedom that kept me engaged. I could have easily spent hours simply exploring the world, reveling in the innovative traversal options.
Accessible Yet Challenging Combat
The combat system is intuitive and allows for a variety of abilities and combinations. During a fair yet challenging boss fight, I felt the developers successfully struck a balance between accessibility and difficulty. The environments during my session were stunningly crafted, with rural landscapes that evoked memories of *Ghost of Tsushima*, showcasing meticulous attention to detail.
A Glimpse into the Future
Although my 30-minute exploration was brief, it left me yearning for more. The compelling combination of fluid movement, a breathtaking open world, and an engaging storyline positions Where Winds Meet as one of my top discoveries from Gamescom.
Slated for release on November 14, 2025, in Europe and North America for PlayStation 5 and PC, the game also promises mobile availability and cross-progression support.
From my preview, it’s clear this rich, expansive world invites players to immerse themselves in its allure, offering a seamless blend of exploration and cinematic action that pulls you deeper into its narrative.
