Although no official announcement has been made by the studio, Dune: Part II will probably not be the end of the franchise initiated by Denis Villeneuve.
Because the director has expressed his intention to return to Arrakis for a third part on numerous occasions. Better: he recently said that the scenario for a Dune 3 was almost finished. He had previously explained that this time he wanted to adapt the novel The Messiah of Dune by Herbert, published in 1969.
Recently, Denis Villeneuve explained to The Hollywood Reporter that this third part would not arrive immediately, the director needing a break: ” I agreed to do the first and second parts one after the other. ‘other, but now I will have to digest this experience to come back with a powerful scenario. It’s almost finished but still needs work. “
During a previous press conference reported by Variety, the filmmaker explained where he was in writing the screenplay, which he had already started: “The screenplay is almost finished but it is not finished. It will take a little time… I have this dream of making a third film… it would totally make sense to me.”
It is likely that Warner Bros. prefers to wait to see the results of Dune: Part II at the box office before making any announcement.
