Ubisoft’s long-awaited pirate adventure game, Skull and Bones, is finally releasing soon, and players may be wondering if the game contains in-game purchases or microtransactions. Here’s what you need to know.
After numerous delays, Skull and Bones will finally be released on February 16 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Amazon Luna. The game promises to deliver an epic 17th century pirate adventure in which players can sail the ocean for both single-player and multiplayer adventures.
This looks pretty promising, especially for Assassin’s Creed fans – after all, Skull and Bones was originally intended as DLC for Black Flag. However, modern gaming trends and publisher Ubisoft’s track record may have fans wondering if there will be microtransactions in this new release.
Here’s what you need to know about microtransactions in Skull and Bones.
Does Skull and Bones contain microtransactions?
Yes, Skull and Bones will have microtransactions. They will take the form of premium currency for in-game purchases and a battle pass.
Given that Skull and Bones is a full-price game costing €59.99 on PC and €69.99 on consoles, this has understandably caused some controversy, with players expressing frustration that the game is being treated as a service title live with a fairly high entry barrier.
Ubisoft responded to the criticism, with CEO Yves Guillemot defending the pricing during an investor call by calling Skull and Bones a “quadruple A” game and saying both that it is a “completely successful” and that it “will keep its promises in the long term.”
