Staying true to the essence of the various anime and manga series, not every character in Dragon Ball Sparking! Zero holds equal prowess. While seasoned fighters like Chiaotzu and the Frieza Force Soldier may struggle against powerhouses such as Super Saiyan Blue Gogeta or Legendary Super Saiyan Broly, this disparity is what makes the Budokai Tenkaichi series wonderfully engaging.

S-Tier Characters in Sparking Zero

The highest-ranking fighters within Sparking! Zero will not come as a surprise. From the mightiest Saiyans to a Divine being and an Angel, this game showcases the most potent entities in Dragon Ball. Characters within the S-tier boast extensive health, deliver powerful blows, execute lethal touch-of-death combinations, and can unleash devastating ki blasts that decimate foes from a distance.

Warriors like Ultra Instinct Goku and Whis prove difficult to land hits on due to their agile evasive maneuvers, while Beerus packs a punch with his ultimate ability. Beerus stands out due to his health regeneration skill, Sleep, and the Verdict of Destruction, which has a modest cost of two skill points, allowing him to enter Sparking mode. Abilities that facilitate entry into Sparking mode without a full ki meter are invaluable and can alter the momentum of tough matchups.

In the S-tier, you’ll also find formidable villains from Dragon Ball Super, including the corrupted Fused Zamasu, fully powered Jiren, and the legendary Broly. Their inclusion is well worth every Zeni spent on acquiring them.

Naturally, it wouldn’t be a complete S-tier without the boastful yet powerful Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta.

A-Tier Characters in Sparking Zero

The A-tier lineup features some characters that harness the power of God Ki like Super Saiyan Blue Goku, yet they slightly lag in comparison to their higher-tier counterparts. However, this doesn’t imply that they’re lacking in strength – each character has proven themselves among the most formidable warriors at various points in the universe.

Characters in the A-tier have a DP value of either 8 or 7, providing robust options for building a competitive team, especially when paired with lower-tier allies. Given that S-tier characters consume 9 or 10 DP out of a total of 15, opting for an A-tier centerpiece may be more advantageous than relying on elite fighters when the situation becomes dire.

Some personal highlights from the A-tier include Super Janemba (whose animations are superb), Super Saiyan 2 Kefla (she proved capable of competing with Goku during the Tournament of Power), and, of course, Super Saiyan 4 Goku and Vegeta, which elicit nostalgic feelings for DBGT fans.

B-Tier Characters in Sparking Zero

A majority of the characters in Sparking! Zero will find their place within the next two tiers. Generally, B-tier characters showcase late DBZ Super Saiyan forms or represent the peak evolutions of specific DBZ villains.

Most characters in the B-tier hold a DP value of 6 or 7, making them sufficiently powerful to serve as the backbone of an online team. For instance, a lineup featuring Vegeta – Super Saiyan God (Super) alongside supporting characters from C- and D-tiers would be formidable.

Despite their lower DP ratings compared to others in the B-tier, base form Goku (Super), Vegeta (Super), Goku (GT), and Baby Vegeta (GT) have been elevated into the B-tier due to their ability to transform and fuse. While it might take time to gather enough skill points for transformations or fusions, these characters have the potential to metamorphose into A- and S-tier combatants amidst high-stakes battles.

C-Tier Characters in Sparking Zero

The C-tier is predominantly filled with the base forms of many characters, including Universe 6 Saiyans, which considerably overshadow DBZ antagonists due to the drastic power scaling present in Dragon Ball Super.

The distribution of many characters holding a DP score of 4 or 5 illustrates that nearly every character has their own usefulness and strength in some capacity. A multitude of these Saiyans have the capability to transform into elevated forms with superior skill sets, presenting opportunities for team compositions featuring three C-tier or a blend of C- and D-tier fighters in the online meta.

Regrettably, beloved character Piccolo lands in the C-Tier. While the early iterations from Dragon Ball Z are formidable, they still pale in comparison to higher-tier fighters, and Piccolo (Fused with Kami) lacks a rush super or ability to access Sparking mode. At the very least, we can anticipate that Orange Piccolo from the upcoming DLC for Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero will bring enhanced potency.

D-Tier Characters in Sparking Zero

Sparking! Zero excels at making even its least powerful characters engaging and enjoyable to utilize. Take Raditz, for example. Though he is relatively weak compared to late-DBZ villains like Cell and Super Buu, he remains a challenging adversary in Goku’s Episode Battles and holds significance within the Dragon Ball narrative.

The original cast of Dragon Ball – Krillin, Yamcha, Master Roshi – all belong to the D-tier, highlighting how dramatically powerful the series’ character roster has evolved. While they may not have the capability to obliterate planets or rival the gods, they can still provide a fun gameplay experience, especially utilizing the range of costumes available, such as Yamcha’s original attire or Master Roshi’s Jackie Chun disguise.

Personally, I’ve found a few D-tier characters to be quite enjoyable, like Burter, whose impressive speed can be advantageous for initiating combos. Nappa’s super moves are entertaining, Master Roshi – Max Power can undoubtedly teach younger fighters a thing or two, and Zarbon’s transformation ability gives him an edge, enabling him to switch to a higher tier character when needed.

Hercule Tier in Sparking Zero

Certainly, the CHAMP deserves his own tier! This is the legendary man – no, the World Champion – who managed to conquer Cell and save the planet. Those golden-haired warriors can’t compete with his prowess!

Hercule relies not on flashy tricks but embodies the purity of a martial artist. And if things get challenging? Mr. Buu is always at his side, ready to demonstrate to opponents why they have no chance against the champion.

Disregard the 1 DP value, as he’s merely… warming up.

Zero appears set to be one of the most remarkable games of the year.
