Bungie is launching another exclusive playtest for its upcoming title, Marathon, and this time players can earn a substantial reward of $500 just for participating. Aimed at refining the game before its release, this initiative is particularly enticing given Marathon’s rocky start.

Despite the excitement surrounding its launch, Marathon has faced challenges, including a mixed response during its Closed Alpha Test and allegations of plagiarism concerning its artwork. Following these setbacks, Bungie made the tough choice to postpone the initial release, originally scheduled for September 2025. Currently, no new release date has been announced.

Exclusive Marathon Playtest Offering Financial Incentives

According to an email revealed by TheGamePost, the upcoming playtest will span 30 days, requiring participants to log at least one hour of gameplay each day. At the conclusion of this period, each player will receive a $500 reward.

The email detailed the schedule, stating, “This user research study is a playtest that will run for 30 consecutive days from Monday, September 8, to Tuesday, October 7, including weekends. You will be required to play for a minimum of 1 hour daily during the playtest window from 3 PM to 7 PM PST on weekdays and from 2 PM to 8 PM PST on weekends.”

Furthermore, it noted that “Upon completing the study, you will receive a $500 gift card of your choice as a thank you for your valuable time and feedback. If you only complete part of the study, you will only receive the portion of the reward based on the number of days that you have completed.”

The hourly rate for participating in this playtest is notably attractive, equating to approximately $16.60 per hour for just 30 hours of gameplay over the full duration, which is competitive in the gaming industry.

However, it’s worth noting that this opportunity is limited to invite-only participants. Previous testers of Marathon should check their email for inclusion in this exclusive round. For those interested in joining future playtests, the official Bungie website allows players to create an account and opt in for testing opportunities.

While community playtests are fairly common in the gaming landscape, they often consist of volunteer participants. Bungie’s willingness to offer such a substantial incentive makes this particular opportunity stand out, representing a significant shift in how testing might be approached within the industry.
