xAI has recently unveiled Grokipedia, a novel encyclopedia integrated with its Grok AI. This platform adopts a minimalist, search-centric design reminiscent of Wikipedia, offering users familiar navigation and layout.
Grokipedia’s interface mirrors that of Wikipedia, featuring structured page layouts with headings, citations, and references. Some entries even come with a Grok “fact check” timestamp. However, it should be noted that users currently lack the ability to propose or submit their edits directly to the content.
According to a report from The Verge, several articles on Grokipedia appear to have been directly sourced from Wikipedia, with some content virtually identical to existing entries in the online encyclopedia.
Notable Similarities with Wikipedia Content
For instance, entries on subjects such as the MacBook Air, PlayStation 5, and Lincoln Mark VIII feature a notice stating: “The content is adapted from Wikipedia, licensed under Creative Commons Attribution ShareAlike 4.0 License.” In these cases, the text on Grokipedia matches that of Wikipedia word for word.
The Wikimedia Foundation has acknowledged this replication, with spokesperson Lauren Dickinson commenting, “Even Grokipedia needs Wikipedia to exist, ” in a statement to The Verge.

Among the various entries, Elon Musk’s page on Grokipedia presents an extensive amount of information.
This situation follows a prior incident where Grok had utilized Wikipedia content. In September, Musk acknowledged the issue when responding to a user’s observation, assuring that xAI aimed to rectify it by year’s end.
While not all pages on Grokipedia are direct replications, significant differences do exist. For example, both platforms feature entries on climate change; however, Grokipedia’s narrative appears to cast doubt on the scientific consensus and claims that media outlets are amplifying “heightened public alarm.”
Conversely, Wikipedia asserts that there is near-universal agreement among the scientific community that human activities are contributing to climate change. Additionally, Grokipedia currently lists over 885, 000 articles, starkly contrasting with the approximately 7 million entries available on Wikipedia in English.
