The beloved binge-worthy series may have switched settings, yet Emily In Paris Season 5 could face significant challenges, primarily due to a “frustrated” Lucas Bravo possibly not returning.
Bravo portrays Gabriel, who is Emily’s primary romantic interest throughout the four seasons. By the conclusion of Season 4, Emily relocated to Rome for her job and for a new relationship with Marcello, potentially offering the perfect opportunity for new storylines.
In a candid discussion with IndieWire, Bravo shared his frustrations regarding the creative limitations he encounters on the show, which could influence his decision to reprise his role. “I’ve tried to incorporate subtleties for several seasons, but we have little freedom on set. We’re not allowed to modify dialogue or emotions. The direction is clear, and we must adhere to it,” he stated.
“This has led me to reconsider my involvement in Season 5… My contract concludes at the end of Season 4. I’m eager to see Gabriel regain his fun, cheeky, and vibrant nature. After three seasons of a melancholic, sad, and lost character, it no longer feels enjoyable. It’s a comedy, and while everyone around me is joyous and animated, I find myself sinking into an unidentifiable state.”
Based on Season 4, Bravo’s concerns seem justified. Initially, Gabriel was confined to his apartment with Camille and Sofia, while later episodes showcased his longing for Emily amidst conflicts and confrontations with Genevieve.
He further pointed out a “lack of risk” within the narrative, mentioning that potential plot developments (like the move to Rome or Camille’s pregnancy) seem to be retracted.
“However, my affection for the show remains. It marked the beginning of my career, and I cherish the cast and crew,” he added. “That being said, I feel a bit ungrateful expressing frustration, but loving something means wanting it to be the best it can be.”
“I must admit that I’ve felt annoyance at the direction my character has taken. Yet, the journey isn’t over, and we will see what unfolds.”
No concrete arrangements for Emily In Paris Season 5 have been confirmed, suggesting that Gabriel’s character could be excluded if necessary. Previously, Bravo expressed his irritation at fans creating factions among Emily’s romantic interests.
“It’s been three years of Team Alfie versus Team Gabriel. It’s time to let this competition go. Let’s support Emily in finding happiness with the right partner,” he remarked.
