Fortnite players are witnessing a dramatic crackdown on cheaters, as Epic Games takes a hard stance against those who disrupt gameplay. Recently, two individuals found themselves at the center of public scrutiny after they were compelled to publicly apologize to the gaming community for their unethical actions, which included DDoSing live streamers and selling cheat software.

Epic Games has been unyielding in its efforts to eradicate cheating within the game. Players have expressed their support for the company’s unique methods of punishment, especially for those who spoil the gaming experience with unfair practices.

In June, the enforcement measures escalated as Epic Games pursued legal action against a cheater in court, leading to a ruling that required the player to pay a staggering $175, 000 in damages. However, not all penalties involve financial restitution; some are designed to publicly humiliate offenders for their actions.

Cheaters Face Public Backlash

On July 14, Epic Games announced via a post on X that they had taken legal action against two individuals involved in cheating. The statement highlighted the severity of their offenses: one was found selling cheats, while the other was responsible for orchestrating cyber attacks, specifically DDoS attacks on streamers broadcasting their gameplay.

As part of their punishment, both individuals were ordered to post sincere apologies on their social media profiles. The reactions to their apologies were overwhelmingly critical and mocking.

One of the offenders, known as Zebsi, issued an apology specifically addressing his DDoS attacks on content creators, expressing remorse for the disruption his actions caused to streamers and the broader gaming community. He stated, “I regret my actions and will not be involved in any more DDoS attacks.”

Conversely, Mirrored, the individual who sold cheating software, became the target of widespread ridicule after his apology went viral, amassing over 1.5 million views on X. He confessed to cheating during tournaments and distributing cheats, adding, “I’ll face legal action if I sell or distribute cheats again.”

The absurdity of the situation was not lost on social media users, including members from the Anti-Cheat Police Department watchdog group, who sardonically commented, “Epic Games forced a grown man who has a child to publicly apologize for cheating in Fortnite.”

Comments on platforms like YouTube added to the mocking tone, with one user humorously suggesting they were “dragging his ass down the street on a leash, ” likening the situation to a public shaming spectacle.

While some might argue that these two offenders received lighter penalties compared to others who faced hefty fines, the public embarrassment that accompanies this unique form of punishment is likely to leave a lasting impact.
