At the recent Game Awards, Larian Studios unveiled a much-anticipated title that captivated the audience. This reveal was not only marked by an enigmatic giant statue but also generated buzz as the next significant release following the phenomenal success of Baldur’s Gate 3. According to the company’s CEO, this upcoming game promises to surpass its predecessor.
Prior to the immense popularity of Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios was known for its acclaimed Divinity series, which debuted in 2002. The franchise gained significant traction with the release of Divinity: Original Sin in 2014, earning a dedicated fanbase who appreciated its intricate world, engaging gameplay, and compelling narrative.
Now, the Divinity series is making a comeback, having been announced at the 2025 Game Awards. Following an enlightening conversation with Bloomberg, Larian’s CEO, Swen Vincke, shared exciting insights into what fans can expect from this new installment.
Revamping Divinity: A New Era for Larian Studios
In his interview with Bloomberg, Vincke expressed ambitious goals for the upcoming title, emphasizing that it will showcase a new level of creativity and skill.“This is going to be us unleashed, I think, ” he remarked. He further elaborated that while Divinity will remain a turn-based RPG incorporating beloved mechanics from both Original Sin and Baldur’s Gate 3, players can expect these elements to be refined and enhanced.

Vincke attributed the anticipated advancements in gameplay to two key factors. First, they are developing a system tailored specifically for video gaming, which he believes will result in a more intuitive experience compared to adapting the traditional Dungeons & Dragons framework. Secondly, the CEO pointed out that their approach to voice acting and writing will feature entirely human actors, as opposed to relying on artificial intelligence, stating, “we’re writing everything ourselves.”
While the game remains in the early stages of development and a 2026 release may be optimistic, Vincke reassured fans that a timeline of “three to four years is much healthier than six years” for an early access or full release. This insight reflects Larian’s commitment to delivering a polished experience for its player base.
