The gaming platform Roblox has issued an official statement concerning the disappearance of 15-year-old Thomas Medlin. Thomas was reported missing in New York after it was alleged that he made plans to meet another player he encountered within the game.

Thomas was last seen on January 9. His mother, Eva Yan, shared insights during an interview with Long Island News 12, stating that detectives had indicated he had met someone while gaming and planned a rendezvous outside the virtual environment.

The Suffolk County Police Department released a statement on January 12 detailing:

“Thomas Medlin, 15, of Saint James, left the Stony Brook School on Friday, January 9, at approximately 3:30 pm and ran to the Stony Brook Train station. He was last seen at Grand Central Station in Manhattan at approximately 5:30 pm the same day. Thomas Medlin is white, 5 feet 4 inches tall, and 130 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black jacket with red stripes, dark sweatpants with white stripes, a black backpack, and glasses.”

Roblox’s Investigative Measures

In response to the situation, Roblox released a statement on January 26 via X/Twitter, noting that they launched an internal investigation as soon as they learned of Medlin’s disappearance. Their inquiry specifically looked into claims of him having met up with another player outside the game.

Roblox reported that their findings showed no evidence of Thomas being encouraged to communicate outside of the platform, nor was there any exchange of contact information (such as usernames or phone numbers) outside of the game. They stated that all monitored chat activity aligned with standard in-game conversations, and there was no indication that Thomas utilized voice chat.
