A ticket examiner from a Scottish railway service has opened her heart and home to a kitten she rescued, which was left abandoned on a train back in January. This uplifting event unfolded on January 8, when ScotRail employee Marie Fox stumbled upon the small feline companion in a blue-and-grey pet carrier during her morning shift.

The kitten, identified as a six-month-old brown-and-white female tabby, was found alone on the 8:25 ScotRail train traveling from Helensburgh to Edinburgh. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Fox took it upon herself to care for the abandoned animal and eventually facilitated its safe transfer to the Glasgow branch of Cats Protection, an organization dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating cats.

Initially named ‘Annie, ’ the kitten was raised by the organization until mid-February when Fox officially adopted her and opted for a new name: ‘Daisy.’ “Renaming her Daisy symbolizes a fresh start, ” Fox shared with local news.“After losing my cat last August, taking Daisy in feels like a timely blessing. She has brought immense joy into our lives, and I am eager to see her flourish.”

Marie Fox admitted that she didn’t foresee bringing the kitten home that day.“Seeing her so small and vulnerable left a lasting impact. Providing her with a safe, loving home is a precious opportunity. I am incredibly thankful to Cats Protection for their support and for everyone who helped amplify Annie’s rescue story, ” she stated.

Elaine Brennan, the coordinator of the Glasgow branch of Cats Protection, noted that their fundraising efforts on JustGiving exceeded expectations, amassing £5, 000 (approximately $6, 750 USD) for Daisy’s care.“We received an overwhelming number of applications to rehome Annie, but we truly believe Marie is the perfect fit, ” said Brennan.“We look forward to witnessing Daisy thrive with her new family.”

In a light-hearted post on X, ScotRail congratulated Fox for providing a loving home to “wee Daisy” after her abandonment on a ScotRail seat. This heartwarming tale adds to the growing collection of rescue stories recently making headlines, including the NYPD’s heroic act of freeing an injured Bald Eagle trapped on the Hudson River on February 17.
