The Stop Killing Games campaign has announced that a hearing with the European Commission is highly likely, following preliminary findings indicating that 97% of the 1.45 million signatures collected on its petition are valid.
Launched by Ross Scott, the creator of Accursed Farms, the Stop Killing Games initiative unites gamers from all over the globe in a plea to protect online-only games from being shut down. The campaign advocates for legal measures that would ensure continued access to these games even after publishers discontinue their support.
Momentum for the campaign accelerated earlier this year, driven by vibrant communities on platforms like YouTube and Reddit, successfully surpassing the million-signature threshold required to compel the European Union to review the petition.
It looks like my worrying in July was for nothing. Not all the signatures have been counted yet for the ECI, but for the ones that have, the validity rate is about 97%.I think this means a hearing before the EU Commission is all but guaranteed.https://t.co/NSfobJcJAs

As of the July 31 deadline, the campaign’s success surpassed its goal by nearly 500, 000 signatures, allowing for some potential validation losses without jeopardizing overall outcomes.
Validity Rate of 97% Among Signatures
In a recent announcement on Reddit, the Stop Killing Games campaign reported that national authorities have validated around 97% of the signatures examined so far. This remarkable figure suggests that an official hearing with the EU Commission is virtually assured. The validation process is ongoing and could take another three months to complete. Upon finalization, the petition will be delivered personally to officials in Brussels, marking the commencement of the legislative journey.
The campaign has outlined its forthcoming strategies, which involve proactive engagement with Members of Parliament and Commission representatives, countering industry lobbying efforts, and enhancing community outreach. Additionally, there are notable leadership transitions within the campaign, as some veteran contributors have stepped down, making way for new volunteers to take on essential responsibilities.
Addressing his community on X, Ross Scott expressed relief over the results, stating, “It looks like my worrying in July was for nothing. Not all the signatures have been counted yet for the ECI, but for those that have been, the validity rate stands at approximately 97%.This bodes well for a hearing before the EU Commission.”
As the initiative gears up for the potentially intense political discussions ahead, organizers have pledged to keep supporters informed with regular updates in the coming weeks.
