Panasonic has made a surprising move to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Neon Genesis Evangelion by taking a bold step into the realm of power tools, transforming the iconic mechs from the anime into practical electric screwdrivers.
Rather than typical commemorative items like figurines or limited-edition watches, the renowned Japanese electronics company is unveiling an exclusive line of Evangelion-themed electric screwdrivers. Yes, you read that right—screwdrivers inspired by the beloved anime!
Unexpected Yet Practical Collaboration
This unique collaboration presents specially designed editions of Panasonic’s rechargeable mini electric screwdriver, each modeled after a specific Eva unit. Every screwdriver showcases distinctive unit colors, features unit-specific numbering on the cap, and comes packaged in a design that reflects its corresponding mech.
Functionality is key; despite the flashy anime aesthetic, these screwdrivers operate at 850 rpm and are equipped with an LED light, making them ideal for use in darker environments. According to Panasonic’s claims, a single full charge can tackle approximately 2, 000 screws—an impressive feat, unless you’re undertaking an ambitious renovation of NERV headquarters.
The standard edition retails for around 18, 480 yen (approximately $123 USD), while the premium Unit-01 edition, which includes a themed carry case and a Spear of Longinus attachment, is priced at 21, 780 yen (roughly $145 USD).

This exciting collection is set to launch in Japan on February 2, 2026, but details regarding an international release remain absent at this time.
Ultimately, this collaboration is undeniably peculiar, even by the outlandish merchandising standards of Evangelion. Yet, there’s an intriguing sense of appropriateness in honoring an anime rooted in apocalyptic scenarios with tools designed to resolve everyday challenges in a quiet and efficient manner.
