The characters in Deadpool & Wolverine feature a range of versions of the former hero, including both interpretations from the Marvel Comics canon and ones created specifically for the movie.
The introduction of Deadpool and Wolverine’s Paradox into the TVA marks the beginning of a journey through multiple universes, filled with guest appearances, unexpected additions, and foreshadowing of upcoming Marvel movies.
1. The Original Deadpool from the First Two Movies
Naturally, the main character Deadpool is featured prominently in the film Deadpool & Wolverine. The story takes place in Earth-10005, which is the officially designated universe for Fox’s X-Men film timeline. The movie shows how Deadpool, after obtaining Cable’s time machine, travels to different universes such as Earth-616 to team up with the Avengers. In Deadpool & Wolverine, Wade is portrayed as a retired car salesman who has left behind his days of being a hero.
When the TVA appears and alerts Deadpool to a threat that is endangering his timeline, the hero instantly jumps back into action. As expected, this particular version of Deadpool takes on the role of the film’s main character. As the movie nears its conclusion, Deadpool meets multiple variations of himself, some of which are more amicable than others.
Dogpool
Mary Poppins, also referred to as Dogpool, has the second-highest amount of screen time in the film Deadpool & Wolverine. This character enters the Void to join another version of Deadpool, but ultimately becomes drawn to the original Deadpool. Throughout the movie, Dogpool is portrayed as someone who desires to be in the company of the main duo, Deadpool and Wolverine.
Dogpool joins the rest of the Deadpool Corps in the final act. He quickly runs towards Deadpool and Wolverine, preventing them from being attacked by the other versions. Despite being based on the same Marvel Comics character, Dogpool is portrayed as a unique and distinct canine.
Nicepool
Early set photos of Deadpool & Wolverine showed Ryan Reynolds portraying a long-haired Deadpool. This particular variation of the character has been dubbed the samurai Deadpool by many, although he is referred to as Nicepool in the film. Nicepool is also the original owner of Dogpool and joins the original Deadpool and Wolverine on their journey through the Void.
Similar to Dogpool, Nicepool makes an appearance in the final act of Deadpool & Wolverine before the introduction of the Deadpool Corps. However, unlike the other variants, Nicepool does not possess the same abilities and is unable to regenerate. This leads to a comically tragic death scene after one of the film’s best meta jokes. Despite this, Nicepool’s legacy lives on as the original Deadpool takes up his weapons and seeks vengeance for his fallen counterpart.
4. Headpool: The Zombified Version of Deadpool from Marvel Comics
Headpool is a unique version of Deadpool that appears in Deadpool & Wolverine. In the comics, Headpool originally existed as another version of Deadpool from a different Earth. This reality was unfortunately struck by a zombie epidemic, resulting in Wade being bitten and turned into a zombie. He was subsequently transported to Earth-616, where his body was torn apart, leaving only a talking zombie head that closely resembled the witty Merc with a Mouth.
In general, Deadpool and Wolverine depict Headpool in a similar manner. In the movie, renowned actor Nathan Fillion, who frequently makes appearances in the MCU, provides the voice for Headpool. The character is seen emerging from a vortex alongside other characters.
5. Lady Deadpool: The Female Leader of The Deadpool Corps
Despite not officially being declared the leader, Lady Deadpool took charge and led the Deadpool Corps through the vortex in the conclusion of Deadpool & Wolverine. This character, who is a fan favorite in Marvel Comics, was hinted at in various teasers for the film, causing much speculation and theories such as Ryan Reynolds in a wig or Taylor Swift as the female incarnation of the character.
Another potential nickname that gained popularity for Lady Deadpool was Blake Lively, who happens to be the wife of Ryan Reynolds. Interestingly enough, Lively actually portrayed Lady Deadpool in the movie Deadpool and Wolverine.
Despite never being unmasked, Lively is believed to have provided the voice for the persona and most likely wore the suit. The unique aspect of Lady Deadpool, in comparison to other versions, is her use of two miniature machine guns as her primary weapons instead of the typical dual pistols.
6. Babypool: The Youngest Variant of Deadpool
Kidpool is the youthful counterpart of Deadpool, but in Deadpool & Wolverine, this concept is taken to the next level. The movie features a character called “Baby Pool,”who is exactly what the name suggests: a baby version of Wade Wilson. However, this version of Deadpool plays a minor role in the battle between Deadpool and Wolverine. Interestingly, it is another Reynolds, Olin Reynolds, the fourth and youngest child of Lively and Reynolds, who brings Babypool to life in the film.
Kidpool: The Young Version of Deadpool in The Corps
It was widely speculated that Walker Scobell, known for his previous collaboration with director Shawn Levy on The Adam Project, would play the role of Kidpool in the film. This was due to his portrayal of a younger version of Ryan Reynolds in the same project, leading many to believe he was the perfect fit for the character.
Despite Scobell’s involvement in the film, it was not actually him who played the role of Kidpool in Deadpool and Wolverine. The honor instead went to Inez Reynolds, the daughter of Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively. Similar to Lady Deadpool, Kidpool’s character remained masked in the final scene and only had one line of dialogue.
Nevertheless, the conversation was appropriately filled with foul language and obscenities, matching the R-rated style of the film as yet another iteration of Deadpool.
8. Cowboy Deadpool: The Wild West Version of Wade Wilson
Cowboy Deadpool, much like Babypool, is a notable variation seen in the final appearance of Deadpool and Wolverine. The character maintains the iconic Deadpool costume, but with added cowboy elements such as boots, spurs, hats, and belt buckles. In addition, Cowboy Deadpool stands out from the other members of the Deadpool Corps due to his quickdraw weaponry.
The cameo in which Cowboy Deadpool is portrayed is nearly perfect. Matthew McConaughey makes his first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the voice actor for both Deadpool and Wolverine.
McConaughey’s distinctive southern accent is a perfect fit for a western adaptation of Deadpool, giving life to the character as he joins forces with his fellow Corps members to confront Wolverine and the original Deadpool.
Watari (Ronin-pool): The Samurai Variant Of Deadpool From Marvel Comics
Similarly, Watari stands out among other Deadpool and Wolverine figures due to his Eastern influence. This version of the figure wields a samurai sword and is dressed in a long, flowing robe, much like Cowboy Deadpool and Welshpool. Additionally, Watari’s appearance is further enhanced by a large ronin hat, showcasing his Japanese heritage.
Despite his brief appearance in the comics, Watari is depicted as a protector of multiple Deadpool Corps members, defending them from various dangers. However, in a tragic turn of events, Watari and several other squad members are killed by the Evil Deadpool Corps. Nevertheless, in Deadpool & Wolverine, Watari manages to survive a battle against the titular duo and continues to fight alongside his resilient companions.
10. Welshpool and Ryan Reynolds’ Connections to Wrexham Result in Success for Deadpool and Wolverine Films
In addition to his acting career, Reynolds’ latest business endeavor involves owning the Welsh football club Wrexham A.F.C. This ownership is featured in the Disney+ series Welcome to Wrexham.
One of the many versions of Deadpool featured in the Deadpool & Wolverine climax is Welshpool. This character is almost identical to previous versions of Deadpool, except for the addition of a large Welsh flag painted across his chest.
11. Deadpool 2099
One standout variant in Deadpool & Wolverine is Deadpool 2099. This version is depicted as a futuristic iteration of Wade Wilson, complete with a technologically advanced suit of armor adorned with neon lights. In contrast to other versions of Deadpool who wield swords, Deadpool 2099 utilizes lightsaber-like energy sticks to engage in combat against both Deadpool and Wolverine.
Wade and Shiklah’s daughter, Warda Wilson, is a character in the relatively new comic book series, Deadpool 2099, published by Marvel in 2016. She is the queen of the underworld, and first made her appearance in the same year as the release of the series.
Golden Age Deadpool: One of The Founding Deadpool Corps Members
In Marvel Comics, Deadpool is approached by four characters who introduce him to the Corps. Among them are Lady Deadpool, Dogpool, and Kidpool, as well as Golden Age Deadpool who, as his name implies, is a version of the character from the Golden Age of comic book heroes.
In the film Deadpool & Wolverine, the iconic look of Golden Age Deadpool from the comic books has been faithfully recreated. Instead of the typical spandex suit seen on other versions of Deadpool, Golden Age Deadpool is dressed in old-fashioned attire, complete with a gasmask and a duo of daggers, rather than his usual katanas. Despite initially being defeated by Deadpool and Wolverine in their battle, Golden Age Deadpool eventually makes a recovery.
Zenpool: A More Pacifistic Version of Deadpool
The creation of Zenpool in Marvel Comics is attributed to the curse of Scarlet Witch and Doctor Doom. In their attempt to alter the mind of the villainous Red Onslaught during a fight, they inadvertently affect allies like Deadpool. This results in Deadpool transforming into Zenpool, a version of himself that is not known for violence.
Before the Corps rushes to combat Deadpool and Wolverine, the film gives a close-up of Zenpool, one of the variations of Deadpool seen in the movie. He is shown wielding a white Deadpool mask, a grey hood, and a long wooden stick.
14. Peterpool- The Most Significant Deadpool Variant
Despite the intense battle between Wolverine, Deadpool, and the Deadpool Corps, the regenerative abilities of the latter pose a potential threat for another confrontation. Fortunately, an unexpected savior emerges: Peterpool. Utilizing the Deadpool outfit stored in his workplace locker, Peter, a trusted companion of the original Deadpool, quickly suits up and joins the fight.
As the other Deadpools praise Peter and celebrate his arrival, they elevate him above themselves. Little did they know, every Deadpool has a Peter, who they are all lucky to have. Peter’s presence diffuses any potential conflicts and saves the Marvel multiverse, as without him, Deadpool and Wolverine may not have been able to stop their villain in time. Ultimately, Peter plays a crucial role in the success of the heroic duo.
15. The Deadpool Corps: The Remaining Deadpool Variants
The countless other iterations of Deadpool, in addition to the popular variations mentioned, were portrayed with various interpretations of the character. These versions did not possess the recognizable elements of samurai headgear, cowboy hats, gray hoods, or youth, but rather donned seemingly identical costumes.
In Deadpool & Wolverine, the Deadpool variants were utilized to balance the numbers for the ultimate showdown. They went head to head against the main mutants in an epic MCU action sequence that will be unforgettable.
