The Let Loose event, hosted by Apple, recently came to an end, unveiling the latest iPads. Although 2023 was a relatively uneventful year for iPads, Apple has made sure that 2024 will be filled with excitement by introducing four new iPad models, each equipped with a variety of innovative features and upgrades.

OLED display is the standout feature of the iPad Pros, accompanied by the surprising M series chipset. The upcoming iPad Pros are expected to deliver an exceptional viewing experience and useful software capabilities. In addition, Apple has unveiled the iPad Air 6, a tablet that may appeal to a wider audience due to its slim design, relatively lower cost compared to the Pros, and larger screen size.

Apple has introduced new accessories to complement the new iPads. These include an upgraded Apple Pencil and a new Magic Keyboard.

For a while now, there have been speculations about the release of an OLED iPad Pro, and it has now been confirmed. OLED, which stands for organic light-emitting diodes, is a display technology that is already present on iPhones and Samsung’s S series tablet.

The latest tablets feature Tandem OLED displays that promise deep blacks and an impressive 1600 nits of peak brightness, earning them the name Ultra Retina XDR by Apple. Additionally, the iPad Pro has undergone a significant redesign, resulting in a remarkably slim and lightweight build. According to Apple, this is their thinnest device to date, with the 11-inch model measuring at 0.21 inches (5.3mm) and the 13-inch at a mere 0.20 inches (5.1mm).

The iPad Pro not only features an upgraded display, but also comes equipped with a brand new M4 chip. Apple has skipped over the M3 and gone straight to the M4 for these iPad Pros. The M4 chip boasts a second-generation 3nm process and includes a 16-core Neural Engine.

This new chip is specifically designed for artificial intelligence tasks and features a 10-core GPU, as well as a brand new CPU with 4 high-performance cores and 6 efficient cores. Dynamic caching and mesh shading technology further enhance its capabilities, making it 4 times faster than its predecessor, the M2 chip.

The orientation of the iPad’s front facing camera has been switched from portrait to landscape by Apple. It boasts a 12MP main camera and is capable of recording 4K ProRes videos.

The starting storage capacity for the new iPad Pro is 256 GB. The 11-inch model can be purchased for $999, while the 13-inch model starts at $1299.

The latest iPad Air update has arrived, now available in both 13-inch and 11-inch screen sizes. However, OLED displays are not included in this release. The 13-inch model features the same Mini-LED panel found in the M2 iPad Pro, while the 11-inch model utilizes an LCD display.

The new iPad Airs are equipped with an M2 chip by Apple, which is a solid improvement from the previous generation models that had an M1 chip. The M1 and M2 chips have differences in terms of performance and efficiency. Another enhancement is the placement of the camera, which is now on one of the side edges in landscape orientation.

The newest additions to the iPad Air 6 collection feature fresh color options such as blue, purple, starlight, and space gray. Both versions now offer a base storage of 128GB, which is twice the amount of the previous model. Additionally, customers can choose from storage options of 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB. These upgraded models are now available for purchase and will begin shipping next week at a starting price of $599 for the 11-inch model and $799 for the 13-inch model.

Oh, and the Apple Pencil Pro

The newest Apple Pencil Pro offers several enhancements compared to previous Apple styluses, including the addition of haptic feedback.

The latest addition is a “squeeze”feature that activates specific functions with a simple squeeze. This gesture can be used to access a contextual menu, allowing quick actions such as adding shapes, stickers, and text to a canvas. The device also includes a gyroscope for adjusting the orientation of tools in use. Additionally, the Apple Pencil Pro is equipped with Find My, making it easy to locate if it is misplaced.

The cost of the Apple Pencil Pro is $129.

Finally, a new and improved Magic Keyboard

Apple aims to provide a laptop-like experience when using the iPad Pro, and the Magic Keyboard Pro is essential in achieving this. The keyboard features a larger trackpad and an aluminum top case, enhancing the overall user experience.

The cost of the new Magic Keyboard remains the same as the previous version, with the 11-inch version priced at $299 and the 13-inch version at $349.
