At Evo 2024, Lucy was unveiled as the inaugural guest character in the “Guilty Gear”franchise, generating excitement among fans. Now, a year later, her gameplay trailer has finally been unveiled along with her eagerly anticipated release date.

The addition of Lucy, a highly requested character from “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, ”heralds a wave of significant updates for “Guilty Gear Strive.”After unveiling character sketches and concept art at Anime Expo, fans were treated to her gameplay debut just a month later at Evo, shifting the excitement into high gear.

Lucy is portrayed as a top-tier hacker, adept in cyberspace navigation and netrunning. She employs a monowire—a whip-like, cybernetic tool—armed with a gun and formidable hacking skills to engage her opponents effectively.

Exciting Release on August 21

As highlighted during the panel hosted by Arc System Works at Anime Expo in July, Lucy’s storyline will intricately blend the vibrant worlds of “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners”and “Guilty Gear Strive.”

“[Lucy] is a netrunner based in Night City, a metropolis built upon the elusive promise of fame and fortune. While in search of information, she plunged into the Net on a ‘deep dive, ’ a method of accessing networks used only by the most talented hackers. Then something bizarre happened…”

Lucy’s hacking abilities provide her with a unique edge, allowing her to debuff opponents—similar to the hacking mechanisms in “Cyberpunk 2077, ”where players can disable their foes’ cybernetic enhancements from afar. She is set to make her debut on August 21, 2025.

This launch will coincide with a sought-after update to “Strive’s”Ranked Match online mode, allowing players to compete against others of the same rank in pursuit of the coveted title of “Vanquisher.”

As if that isn’t enough, “Guilty Gear Strive”is preparing for an extensive Game Version 2.00 update in 2026, which will align with the release of Season 5’s pass, also anticipated for 2026.

The installment is reaching significant milestones, having surpassed 3.5 million players worldwide across all platforms. To express gratitude, the developers are gifting fans with a special illustration by artist Abe Daimon.

Lucy marks the first character from an external franchise to join the “Guilty Gear”universe, but hints from Strive’s producer, Ken Miyauchi, suggest that she may not be the last guest fighter to enter this dynamic realm.
