Exciting Update on Severance Season 2: Why Fans Should Still Be Concerned

We don’t have to wait too long for Severance Season 2, and there’s already been news regarding Season 3—though it may not be the most reassuring update.

The journey we embarked on at Lumon Industries in Season 1 was nothing short of extraordinary, showcasing the Apple TV+ series as a masterful combination of psychological suspense, unsettling sci-fi motifs, surreal elements, dark comedy, and corporate dystopia.

We can’t overlook the incredible ensemble cast that brought these characters to life, featuring talents like Adam Scott, Britt Lower, Patricia Arquette, John Turturro, Zach Cherry, Tramell Tillman, and Christopher Walken.

This series has rightfully earned its place among the greatest television shows ever created. However, this acclaim brings its own challenges. The first season wrapped up on a significant cliffhanger back in February 2022, leaving fans—ourselves included—anxiously awaiting resolution to countless questions.

Fortunately, we have a premiere date for Season 2 set for January 17, 2025, giving us a glimpse of hope. Nonetheless, this appears to be just the beginning of the show’s journey.

This week, Mohamad El Masri, a writer and co-executive producer on the series, shared insights with IndieWire about the overarching vision from creator Dan Erickson for the series, including plans for Season 3 and beyond.

“From the start, there has been consideration for future seasons. Even during the production of Season 2, discussions centered around the show’s ultimate conclusion and the larger narrative,” he mentioned.

“In a show’s second season, there’s usually a natural progression to maintain the momentum,” El Masri added.

He further indicated that Season 2 will guide us towards the intended narrative direction and noted, “While filming Season 2, there was already work being done for Season 3.”

Let’s be clear—this is indeed positive news. With earlier worries about the potential cancellation of the Apple TV+ series due to its production costs, it’s comforting to know that plans for continuing Severance beyond the second season are underway.

However, a new concern arises: will the Season 2 finale leave us hanging again? And if so, could it lead to another lengthy wait for Season 3?

When asked about this concern, El Masri’s response did little to alleviate our fears. “That’s not something I can comment on,” he stated.

“I’ll just say, I hope it doesn’t take another 3.5 years for Season 3 to release. As a fan, I certainly wish we wouldn’t have to wait so long. But, you never know in Hollywood.”

For now, all we can do is wish for a swifter turn of events. However, even if it does take time, we can look forward to enjoying new episodes come January.

In the meantime, dive into this intriguing theory regarding Lumon’s MDR, explore the potential meanings behind the Episode titles for Season 2, and check out the top shows on Apple TV+ available for streaming this month.
