Explaining the Feud Between Elon Musk and Asmongold: The “Fake Gamer” Accusations

In an unexpected twist, a conflict has emerged between tech mogul Elon Musk and popular Twitch streamer Asmongold, a feud that certainly isn’t part of our 2025 predictions.

Elon Musk, a seasoned gamer, is known to connect with various high-profile streamers, including Asmongold, a prominent World of Warcraft player. However, the dynamics changed in January 2025 when Twitch streamer Quin69 charged Musk with ‘account sharing’ while playing Path of Exile 2. This claim arose amidst discussions questioning Musk’s gaming skills.

For those unfamiliar, the allegation from Quin69 suggested that Musk might be hiring someone to level up his character and gather experience. During the stream, Quin remarked, “He just logs in to do a map every now and then,” pointing to a tab labeled “Elon’s Map”as evidence of Musk’s supposed lack of engagement with the game.

Asmongold Weighs In on the Controversy

This narrative quickly caught the attention of Asmongold, who concurred with Quin69’s assessment, asserting that Musk’s high-level character likely wasn’t earned through genuine gameplay. “There’s no way he played that account,” Asmongold stated decisively. “I’m sorry, I think he bought the account or somebody played it for him, one hundred percent.”

Asmongold further challenged Musk to demonstrate his gaming abilities by wagering that he would begin streaming on X (formerly Twitter) if Musk could verify his actual gameplay on the account. “If Elon Musk can prove that he played this account to level 97, I will stream on X for an entire year, starting the day he proves it,”Asmongold promised.

Amidst these allegations, Musk’s level 97 Hardcore Path of Exile character, Percy_Verence, met an unfortunate demise, even after achieving seventh place globally.

Musk’s Humorous Take on the Allegations

After the character’s downfall, Musk was comparatively muted regarding the accusations of account sharing. However, during a live stream from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Club on January 15, he quipped about the claims, humorously referencing an “alter ego”he jokingly referred to as “Yilongma,” claiming, “I rely on him for everything.”

The day after Musk’s humorous comments, fans observed that he had seemingly unfollowed Asmongold on X, leading to rampant speculation about any underlying tension between the two gaming personalities.

Asmongold addressed the situation during a Twitch stream, suggesting that the unfollowing was likely a direct response to Musk’s mounting frustration over the PoE video. He declared, “There’s no way he played that account.”

Musk Shares Private Conversations

In a series of tweets, Musk responded to the growing online discourse, targeting Asmongold’s independent persona. He claimed, “Asmon behaves like a maverick ‘independent,’ but in reality, has to ask his boss for permission before he can do anything.”

Elon also showcased a video of himself achieving a world record in Diablo, further engaging with the gaming community. He subsequently shared a screenshot of private messages exchanged with Asmongold, where they discussed a potential streaming collaboration on X. While Asmongold detailed his editing team setup, Musk expressed interest but questioned the anonymity of his colleagues.

The sharing of private messages ignited significant reactions among Musk’s followers, and a Community Note clarified that Asmongold’s editors do not exert control over his content but simply assist in editing and uploading videos.

Musk continued to critique Asmongold’s gaming skills, expressing, “No other way to say this, but, while Asmon IS good at caustic commentary and making fun of people, he is NOT good at video games.”

Asmongold’s Response to Musk’s DMs Leak

Asmongold responded to Musk’s public sharing of their DMs, calling it an inappropriate move while emphasizing that Musk’s criticisms regarding his gaming skills were excessive. “Leaking my DMs is one thing but this is absolutely uncalled for,” he tweeted.

Asmongold thereafter reiterated during a stream that while third-party help for gameplay is understandable, it’s crucial for players to acknowledge their own contributions. “If you want to have somebody play your account, that’s fine, but you can’t act like you played it yourself,” he reiterated concerning the level 97 milestone.

Since the eruption of this controversy, both Musk and Asmongold have chosen to retreat from the public eye concerning their interactions. Fans are now left speculating the implications for their relationship following this revelation-laden exchange.
