Explanation of T.J. Miller’s absence from Deadpool & Wolverine due to controversy

Despite the numerous surprise appearances and familiar faces, one name that may have been noticeably absent from the Deadpool & Wolverine cast was T.J. Miller.

Despite the highly anticipated arrival of Deadpool in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, focus has primarily been on the Merc with a Mouth, Ryan Reynolds, and his collaboration with Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine.

The introduction of Deadpool 3’s release date symbolizes the start of the MCU’s era of mutants under Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox. Fans can look forward to numerous thrilling cameos and the first appearance of X-Men’s antagonist Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin).

Despite his role in the first two Deadpool movies, T.J. Miller is not listed in the cast for the third installment. Please be aware that some may find the following information distressing.

T.J. Miller’s Role in Deadpool

Weasel is a bartender at Sister Margaret’s School for Wayward Children, a sanctuary for mercenaries. He is portrayed as Wade Wilson’s closest companion, ultimately persuading him to take on the persona of Deadpool, a renowned superhero.

Miller’s personality is renowned for its sarcastic wit and unwavering loyalty to Wade, making him an invaluable guide in the chaotic mercenary world and adding to the irreverent atmosphere of the movies.

Despite still being alive by the end of Deadpool 2, Weasel does not make an appearance in Deadpool and Wolverine. Throughout the film, he remains a loyal friend and informant to Wade, even assisting him in holding auditions for the X-Force team.

Miller Faced Sexual Assault Allegations

In December 2017, during the filming of Deadpool 2 and amidst the #MeToo movement, The Daily Beast released an article detailing accusations from a woman who stated that Miller had physically and sexually assaulted her during their time in college.

The woman recounted that he had conducted multiple actions without seeking her consent and had not once checked in to see if she was doing okay. According to her, he had placed his hands around her neck and she had tried to signal her fear through her facial expressions, hoping he would stop. However, she was unable to verbalize her distress.

During one instance, she alleged that Miller had “violently shaken”her and claimed he had punched her in the mouth, resulting in a fractured tooth and a bloody lip.

The Daily Beast also reported that several former attendees of George Washington University corroborated the woman’s story, in addition to the accusations that were addressed at the university’s student court.

Despite Miller’s denial of the allegations, DreamWorks Animation decided to remove him from How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, and instead had Justin Rupple overdub his lines as Tuffnut.

On the day following the publication of the report, Dana DeArmond, an adult film star, publicly criticized Miller and Jordan Vogt-Roberts, the director of Kong: Skull Island.

Posting on X/Twitter, she stated, “During the filming of Comedy Central’s Mash Up, I experienced harassment from both T.J. Miller and director Jordan Vogt-Roberts. I’ve been vocal about T.J.’s behavior for a long time. This just confirms it.”

Explanation of Additional Controversies

Despite facing allegations of sexual assault, Miller also received criticism from Danielle Solzman for sending a transphobic email in 2017. In the following year, he was arrested for allegedly making a false bomb threat, but the charges were ultimately dropped.

The situation involving the email occurred when Solzman, a transgender woman, sent a brief email to Miller, bringing to his attention the use of the derogatory phrase “Tranny Dumpster Sex”in the metadata of his website.

Miller has faced a number of controversies over the years

Your pursuit of transgender identity seems to be driven by a desire to set yourself apart as unique, but what truly stands out is the ridiculousness of attacking me or accusing me of being offensive.

The comedian proceeded to call Danielle “Daniel”and commented, “You’re not transgender, you’re not a tranny – you’re just a total jerk, Daniel.”

Despite previous controversies, Miller found himself embroiled in yet another major scandal in April 2018, following his arrest in New York for allegedly making a false bomb threat on an Amtrak train.

The US Attorney’s Office reported that, during their journey on Amtrak Train 2256, Miller contacted 911 and accused a female passenger of carrying a bomb in her bag.

The train was halted and evacuated by officials, however the bomb squad did not discover any proof of explosives. In addition, the investigators altered their portrayal of the woman and discovered that Miller had been a passenger on Amtrak Train 2258. They also noted his slurred speech.

A fellow first-class passenger informed the authorities that Miller had been “intoxicated”and was consequently removed from the train. Despite several delays, the charges against Miller were ultimately dismissed in 2021.

Miller’s Opinion of Reynolds

In 2022, Miller made an appearance on the Adam Carolla Show podcast and stated that he would not have accepted the opportunity to star in Deadpool 3, even if he had been offered the role. He accused Reynolds of being “horrifically mean”and “insecure.”

When asked if he would collaborate with Reynolds again, he replied, “No, I would not.”However, he went on to say that he used to have the same opinion about Michael Bay, but now they are friends and he would work with him again. He added that he believes Michael Bay is an exception.

“When questioned about his relationship with Reynolds, Miller responded, “I had a much better rapport with him during the first Deadpool film when he wasn’t such a major movie star.”This implies that Reynolds had changed due to his success.

The comedian recounted a peculiar experience while filming Deadpool, where the character unexpectedly asked for another take and proceeded to act cruelly towards the comedian, treating him as if he were the character Weasel.

“He commented, saying, ‘You know what I appreciate about you, Weasel? You may not be the main character, but your exposition adds just the right amount of humor, allowing us to quickly return to the main plot.’”

Ryan Reynolds was later described as “kind of an insecure dude,”with the statement that even if he was offered twice the amount to do Deadpool 3, the speaker would not have accepted the offer.

Miller stated, “I believe that a Deadpool 3 should be made and that the franchise should continue. However, it seems that the director does not have a good relationship with me, and the way he handled it was strange. But, I have reached a point in my life where I am content and do not feel the need to be a part of Deadpool 3.”

During a subsequent interview on the Jim Norton & Sam Roberts Show, Miller stated that he and Reynolds had resolved their issues, explaining, “He actually reached out to me the next day. We cleared up the misunderstanding through email and everything is good now.”

What is he doing now?

According to his website, Miller is currently on The Gentle Giant Tour and continues to perform as a stand-up comedian.

Despite being active until February 2024, T.J. Miller’s comedy podcast Cashing in with T.J. Miller has gone on a hiatus. In terms of acting, his most recent role was a voice acting performance in the show F is for Family in 2021.
