Agatha All Along has introduced a lineup of intriguing new characters, including Nicholas Scratch. But how is he linked to the titular witch, and what might his motivations be as the series progresses?
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has expanded significantly with the addition of the new TV show Agatha All Along, which serves as a sequel to WandaVision.
In Episodes 1 and 2, both Agatha and viewers embark on a journey down the witches’ road, encountering various mysterious situations and characters.
One of these enigmatic figures is Nicholas Scratch, whose name appears on several items, such as a child’s trophy and drawing during Agatha’s fragmented state caused by Wanda Maximoff‘s spell. So, who exactly is Nicholas, and what role will he play in the series moving forward? Here’s everything you need to know.
Who is Nicholas Scratch?
Nicholas Scratch is the sole son of the seasoned witch Agatha Harkness.
In the comics, both Nicholas and Agatha reside in a magical community located in New Salem, Colorado.
While growing up in New Salem, Nicholas became a powerful sorcerer under his mother’s guidance. Their relationship, however, deteriorated when Agatha, weary of the magical world, chose to abandon it and Nicholas to pursue a “normal”life as a nanny for Franklin Reed, the son of the Fantastic Four duo, Richard and Sue Richards.
Betrayed by his mother, Nicholas quickly rose to power and became the leader of New Salem, turning the entire town against Agatha.
He has also been romantically involved with several individuals and fathered multiple children who possess magical animal shape-shifting abilities. These descendants formed a group known as Salem’s Seven.
Throughout the comics, Nicholas and Salem’s Seven engaged in numerous conflicts with the Fantastic Four, Agatha herself, the Thunderbolts, and Wanda Maximoff, also known as the Scarlet Witch.
Nicholas Scratch’s Role in Agatha All Along Explained
As of Episode 2, Nicholas Scratch has not yet made a formal appearance in Agatha All Along.
While glimpses of his room and belongings can be seen through Agatha’s fragmented memories, we still lack detailed information about Nicholas as a character.
When attempting to recruit Jennifer Kale, the potions witch refers to Agatha as a “child killer,” which deeply unsettles her, suggesting that the purple witch may have committed something dark involving her child.
Although we saw her threaten the lives of Billy and Tommy Maximoff, Wanda’s twins, in WandaVision, she didn’t actually harm them.
Despite Agatha’s notorious reputation for malevolence in her self-titled series, the audience has yet to witness this darker aspect of her, aside from the tragic demise of Sparky the dog.
Agatha’s primary objective in her miniseries is to navigate the witches’ road to reclaim her magical abilities. However, there’s a possibility that her journey may also lead her to her long-lost son.
Viewers can discover how Nicholas Scratch fits into Agatha’s narrative when the next episode of Agatha All Along premieres on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, at 9 PM EST/6 PM PT.
