The Sons of Liberty, featured in Season 2 of *Peacemaker*, represents a terrorist organization that originally originated in DC Comics. This group plays a pivotal role in the story, illustrating the dichotomy between self-proclaimed freedom fighters and those who see their actions as terrorism.

In this new season, the protagonist, Christopher Smith, embarks on an unexpected journey to an alternate dimension, which offers him a more favorable version of his life. Here, he finds that his relationship with Harcourt has the potential for revival, contrasting sharply with its deteriorated state in his original world.

Episode 3 offers a glimpse into their rekindled relationship as they share a lunch in a park. As they begin to confront their feelings for one another, the storyline takes a dramatic turn when the Sons of Liberty make their entrance, interrupting what could have been a heartfelt moment.

In *Peacemaker* Season 2, the Sons of Liberty comprise a disorganized band of individuals who consider themselves to be defenders of freedom, even as Christopher Smith categorically identifies them as terrorists. Their entry is marked by a powerful explosion, as they declare, “We the Sons of Liberty are united in fighting our oppressors… we will continue to dismantle one government agency per week until our demands are met.”

The group’s recent activities include the explosion of a Housing and Development Office and bomb placements throughout the DMV in Episode 3. Their chaotic nature is further exposed as they bicker among themselves and react with fear when things escalate. Additionally, their bomb-making skills seem rather basic, making them easier targets for Peacemaker’s combative prowess.

As a result, Peacemaker handles the Sons of Liberty with his characteristic violence. The sequence of confrontations is both graphic and darkly humorous, with one member meeting a fatal end via an axe to the head, while another’s demise comes by his own hand in a moment of desperation. A particularly brutal scene involves a pencil, displaying the show’s distinctive blend of horror and comedy.

The Sons of Liberty made their debut in *Superman Vol.2 #53*, created by Jerry Ordway in 1991. Originally conceived as a patriotic paramilitary faction, their mission revolves around reinstating ‘American values’ by forcefully attempting to overthrow the US government.

Founded by former US Air Force Major Charles Holcraft, their most notable member was Agent Liberty, played by Benjamin Lockwood, who was once a devoted CIA agent turned disillusioned operative. Lockwood’s loyalty began to falter when he was ordered to assassinate influential political figures, a command that pushed him to dissociate from the organization.

Lockwood’s rebellion against the Sons of Liberty was significant; he turned against the organization, eliminating top members like Jay Harriman and Ronald Kramer, and subsequently leaked sensitive information to Clark Kent at the Daily Planet, leading to a destabilization of the Sons’ hierarchy.

Despite attempts at resurgence, which included a foiled suicide attack on the White House, Agent Liberty consistently thwarted their plans. In later iterations of the DC Universe, the Sons of Liberty evolved into a more pronounced representation of domestic terrorism. Additionally, the spinoff group, Children of Liberty, emerged as an anti-alien faction in Season 4 of *Supergirl*, all spearheaded by Lockwood.
