Capcom has announced a significant extension to the beta testing phase of Monster Hunter Wilds following an unexpected PlayStation Network (PSN) outage that prevented PS5 players from accessing the game.
On February 7, 2025, PSN experienced a sudden, prolonged outage lasting approximately 20 hours. This disruption left many eager players unable to engage in their much-anticipated hunting adventures with monsters like Arkveld and Chatacabra, leading to widespread disappointment within the gaming community.
In light of these events, Sony has initiated a compensation plan for affected users. However, many hunters are still yet to explore the exciting world of Monster Hunter Wilds. This presents a missed opportunity, particularly for players who are undecided about pre-ordering or who wish to claim valuable in-game rewards prior to the official launch.
Beta Extension Announced
On February 9, 2025, Capcom took to social media to announce potential plans to extend the beta testing period for Monster Hunter Wilds. The official Monster Hunter X account addressed the community with the following message:
“PS5 hunters, thanks for your patience and understanding during this weekend’s PSN service issues. To account for reduced OBT2 play time due to the outage, we are considering running OBT2 for an additional 24 hours at a future date.”

Arkveld introduces itself as one of the most formidable monsters featured in the beta, further heightening the excitement for players.
Although the specifics regarding the additional beta period have yet to be finalized, this development is particularly encouraging for PS5 players who missed their chance to engage in the hunting experience. Notably, the Wilds OBT 2 comes with exclusive free rewards, including Shock Traps, Armor Spheres, and more.
Players will also be thrilled to learn about the adorable Palico pendant that can be equipped on all weapons. As such, ensuring participation in the beta is essential for those seeking these unique items. Aside from the possible extension, console and PC players will have additional chances to play on February 13 and February 16, 2025.
