During the recent Nintendo Direct presentation, it was officially announced that Fallout 4 will launch on the Switch 2 on February 24. This updated version, dubbed the Anniversary Edition, features all expansions and a wealth of additional in-game content. However, this release raises the question: does anyone truly care?

After more than a decade since its initial release, many gamers wonder why someone would invest in this seasoned title now. If players have managed to bypass it for eleven years, what’s the appeal of purchasing it exclusively for the Switch 2?

Meanwhile, fans are left eagerly awaiting any updates regarding Elder Scrolls VI. So far, it seems like Bethesda’s attention is elsewhere, with little to no information being shared about this highly anticipated sequel.

On a more positive note, the Nintendo Direct did unveil other intriguing titles for the Switch 2. Among them is the much-anticipated Oblivion Remake, which offers fresh content rather than simply repackaging a nostalgic classic. Though the original released over a decade ago, this remake deserves a spotlight and is certainly worth looking forward to in 2026.

Additionally, titles like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle have garnered praise from players, making their transition to the Switch 2 understandable. Furthermore, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is a sensible addition, especially with a sequel already in the pipeline slated for release in the coming years.

However, bringing Fallout 4 to a new platform provokes skepticism. It’s bewildering to think that developers dedicated resources to this port instead of channeling their efforts into the long-awaited Elder Scrolls VI. While that sentiment might be intense, it reflects the frustration of many fans who are desperate for updates on the beloved franchise.

Bethesda has asserted that they are prioritizing development of Elder Scrolls VI since the beginning of 2023, but given the lengthy cycles typical in game development, we could be facing a potential wait until 2033 or even later.

Imagine the excitement if the gaming community could jest that “we received Elder Scrolls VI before GTA VI“—that would be a significant and delightful outlier in the industry’s timetable. However, it’s likely that GTA VI will experience further delays, making the wait for Elder Scrolls VI all the more crucial.

Nonetheless, there is hope that both titles will deliver an experience worth the extended anticipation.
