Fixing Nightmare Kart Controller Issues on PC

Nightmare Kart, formerly known as Bloodborne Kart, can now be downloaded for free on itch.io and Steam. This kart racing game has a nostalgic PSX theme and offers a plethora of options to replicate the look and feel of the original console. Although its presentation is flawless, players may encounter some technical difficulties. If you are having trouble getting your controller to function with Nightmare Kart, here are some steps to troubleshoot the issue.

Fixing Controller Issues in Nightmare Kart

Native support for Xbox controllers is available in Nightmare Kart, but if you prefer to use a PlayStation controller such as the Dual Shock 4 or Dualsense, you will need to activate Steam Input.

To ensure that Steam Input is enabled for Nightmare Kart, please follow the instructions below.

  • Open Steam, and navigate to your library
  • Right-click on Nightmare Kart, and select Properties
  • Here, in the Controller tab, make sure Enable Steam Input is selected in the dropdown

All you have to do is disable Steam Input for Xbox controllers.

Despite multiple attempts, both myself and other users were unable to get the PlayStation controller to function properly with the game. This resulted in unresponsive controls, but thanks to the amazing efforts of Lilith Walther, the game has been updated to guarantee proper functionality with Steam Input. As a result, any non-Xbox controller can now be easily used without any issues.

The button rebinding screen in Nightmare Kart allows for prompts to be customized for both Xbox and PlayStation controller types. These prompts can be easily switched during a race.

Customizing controls to your preference is also an option, and it’s always a plus. Although I personally enjoy using a controller, Nightmare Kart is just as playable with a keyboard.

In case you encounter any controller problems while playing Nightmare Kart, be sure to restart Steam to ensure that the update has been installed. Additionally, you can also attempt the following suggestions.

Despite the lack of a Bloodborne Remaster or Remake at the moment, fans can still experience the beloved world of the game through Nightmare Kart. This game pays homage to the source material and provides a highly enjoyable experience.

Despite the fact that Bloodborne will not be released on PC in the near future, there is still something to look forward to with the upcoming releases of God of War Ragnarok and Until Dawn Remake.
