However, a significant limitation exists in the current version of Sword of the Sea: it restricts screen resolution options to a maximum of 1440p. As a result, gamers using 4K monitors may not experience the full potential of this visually rich game, as certain features appear to be compromised.

This same concern was noted in Giant Squid’s previous title, The Pathless. Fortunately, players experiencing resolution difficulties in Sword of the Sea can take steps to adjust settings for an optimal experience.

Resolving Resolution Issues in Sword of the Sea

To address the resolution limitations in Sword of the Sea, players can modify the game’s settings by changing its High DPI scaling behavior. Here’s a step-by-step guide to implementing this fix:

  • Ensure that Sword of the Sea is not currently running.
  • Launch Steam and go to your library.
  • Right-click on Sword of the Sea, select Manage, and then choose Browse Local Files.

  • Within the folder, right-click on SwordOfTheSea.exe and select Properties.
  • In the Compatibility tab, click on Change high DPI settings.
  • Check the box for Override high DPI scaling behavior and set it to Application.

After implementing these adjustments, launch Sword of the Sea again, and you should now see the full range of resolution options available. For instance, the 3840 x 2160 (4K) resolution, which was previously unavailable, will now be accessible and function correctly.
