A man from Florida has been apprehended following an unusual incident where he allegedly drove into a restaurant with the intention of recharging his Tesla.

According to officials from the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, 23-year-old Evan Scott Bobal, hailing from Palm Beach County, was taken into custody on June 19, several weeks after a reported break-in at Harry and the Natives restaurant in Hobe Sound.

Security camera footage capturing the early hours of May 26 revealed a man rearranging outdoor furniture, detaching a soda machine, and trying to drag an electric vehicle charger into the establishment to connect to a power source.

“He unplugged the soda dispenser and then tried to back in here, ” stated the restaurant owner, Harry MacArthur, in an interview with WPTV.“Then he hit that post and the planter up there.”

Unintentional Comedy: The Tesla Charger Left Behind

In his hurried escape, Bobal left a significant piece of evidence behind — his Tesla charger. This blunder led the restaurant to take a light-hearted jab at the situation on their Facebook page, humorously noting that the patio was temporarily turned into a charging station.

“Thanks so much for rearranging our patio furniture, creatively wedging your car between the tiki hut pillars, and unplugging our fridge. Very bold of you — especially considering we’re CLOSED every Monday, but always watching, ” the restaurant’s post read, containing a mix of sarcasm and amusement.

The suspect allegedly forgot his Tesla charger at the crime scene.

The restaurant further quipped, “The real kicker? You left behind your Tesla charger. While we appreciate the gift, we don’t own a Tesla — so feel free to come pick it up at Martin County Sheriff’s Department, and they’d love to chat with you — especially about trespassing and property damage.”

Investigative efforts led to the identification of Bobal through the serial number on the charger. Law enforcement officials secured a search warrant for his residence, culminating in his arrest on charges of burglary and attempted theft.

Bobal’s bond has been established at $12, 500. In hindsight, he might want to consider alternative options, such as utilizing one of Elon Musk’s new self-driving ‘Robotaxis’ to avoid any future legal troubles related to his electric vehicle.
