Fortnite’s recent OG update has caught players off guard by drastically altering the XP farming landscape. Once a reliable source of experience points, the playtime XP system has now been severely diminished, leaving fans searching for new ways to accumulate XP.

For many years, the XP structure in Fortnite was a blend of quest rewards, creative farming, and a steady playtime XP accumulation. This latter method enabled players to slowly progress simply by remaining active in the game. Various modes offered differing XP rewards, with Fortnite Reload previously leading the pack by allowing players to earn up to 600, 000 XP per day. This method provided a nearly effortless means of leveling up—until the latest update.

Severe XP Reduction: Fortnite OG Season 2’s Impact

In the Fortnite OG Season 2 update, what was once a smooth XP flow has transformed into a noticeable scarcity. Previously, players could expect to earn 600 XP per minute of gameplay. However, this number has plummeted to a mere 5 XP per minute, marking an astonishing 99% reduction without any prior notice.

To put this into perspective, Fortnite Reload still rewards players with 60, 000 XP every 15 minutes, while the LEGO Fortnite mode offers 38, 000 XP every 10 minutes. Even the Fortnite Festival, which is not known for its XP rewards, still provides 4, 000 XP every 10 minutes. This stark comparison reveals that the OG mode has now become the least rewarding source of XP available.

Frustration among the player base is palpable. FNAssist, a recognized data tracking source for Fortnite, alerted the community about this significant nerf: “Playtime XP for OG has been NERFED by 99%: 600 XP/min ➥ 5 XP/min.”

In response, players have expressed their ire. One user suggested, “Gotta be an error, surely?” while another labeled the update as “lame asf.” Sarcastic remarks flooded in, with one commenting dryly, “Wow. So much.” The community’s reaction has been filled with disbelief, frustration, and substantial critique regarding this unexpected change.

As of now, Epic Games has yet to issue any statement regarding the update. If this alteration wasn’t an oversight, it certainly represents a harsh adjustment for players. While Fortnite OG Season 2 continues to offer nostalgic weapons and locations, this new XP system alteration is a throwback that few players welcomed.

As players are now working harder than ever to earn XP amidst the shifts in game modes and XP sharing introduced in 2025, this latest update has made the journey to leveling up significantly more challenging.
