As Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 1 approaches its midpoint, the journey has been tumultuous for many players. This season has seen the controversial removal of popular features such as the Shockwave Grenades, alongside persistent issues with high ping and various bugs. These problems have significantly impacted the player experience. However, there is hope on the horizon as feedback from the community appears to be influencing future updates, thanks to insights shared by a developer at Epic Games.
Ted Timmins, Fortnite’s Design Director, recently addressed the community’s concerns and shared exciting updates regarding upcoming changes in Chapter 7 Season 1. Here’s a summary of his key announcements:
Return of Shockwave Grenades and Establishment of a Permanent QoL Team

In a recent post on X, Timmins acknowledged the community’s eagerness for fresh content while highlighting Epic Games’ desire to provide a clean start with this new season. He specifically addressed the much-anticipated return of the Shockwave Grenades, admitting they have been a focal point of discussion among players. In his update, he teased, “The good news is we have a fun update in February to spice things up (I hear rumors that Self-Revives and Shockwaves might be making a glorious return…), and then a full Season 2 update in March.”This statement essentially confirms that fans can look forward to the return of Shockwave Grenades in February, alongside the reintroduction of the Self-Revive Item, which had been temporarily removed during the South Park update.
Beyond loot changes, Timmins also delved into critical matters concerning game stability. He revealed that a dedicated multi-discipline live-ops strike team has been formed, meeting daily to prioritize player feedback and implement improvements. This newly established Quality of Life (QoL) team will remain a permanent fixture within the development structure, focusing on making ongoing enhancements. While Timmins noted that the team may not resolve every glitch immediately, players can expect meaningful advancements in the game’s performance and overall experience.
The announcement of the Shockwave Grenades’ return is likely to be met with excitement from the community. However, the creation of the dedicated player-first team is equally significant, considering Fortnite’s continually expanding player base. Addressing issues such as high ping and matchmaking errors is crucial to maintaining a positive gaming experience, and having a team specifically aimed at tackling these challenges can only bode well for the future of the battle royale.
