A member of a fourth-generation girl group has recently addressed the disturbing comments that she and her fellow group members have been receiving. This has caused a range of responses from Korean internet users.
The band ILY:1 has been feeling emotionally overwhelmed by messages from certain fans, leading to discussions about the messages’ content and where to draw the line.
Ririka, a member of ILY, used a communication app to express her concerns.
She voiced her thoughts,
Is it okay to kidnap me? No, it isn’t. Please stop writing such posts.
Jokes should not cross the line.
I’m begging you, please.
I see too many comments that cross the line these days. I’m a human too.
Sharing CCTV from the practice room is a bit much…
We need our privacy too.
These comments have sparked worries among fans.
Despite receiving mixed reactions from netizens, Ririka’s messages sparked a debate. While some perceived the messages as playful, others argued that the female idol may have been too sensitive. A few commented that her Japanese background may have played a role in her interpretation of the messages’ tone.
Several comments were read,
- “The comments seem playful.”
- “Maybe she doesn’t understand that the messages are playful because she is a foreign member.”
- “Isn’t she taking this too seriously?”
However, there were also netizens who showed sympathy towards Ririka. They pointed out that she must have felt intimidated by the messages and, considering she had already made it clear that she dislikes receiving such messages, fans should refrain from sending them. Some even acknowledged Ririka’s perspective, acknowledging that the comments had indeed crossed a boundary.
Several comments were read.
- “She must have been really scared and upset to write such a message.”
- “If she said she doesn’t want it, then don’t send such messages.”
- “If she says it’s scary, then don’t send it.”
- “Those messages definitely cross the line.”
- “Even playful messages need to have tact.”
- “Playfulness should depend on the context.”
In response to the ongoing issue, FC ENM, the agency of ILY:1, released a statement on April 4 through the girl group’s official channel, expressing concern over the continuous messages on personal SNS and communication apps that are causing stress and anxiety for their artists.
