Exploring the lore of Baby Steps has led to an unexpected yet amusing theory: the game might serve as an unofficial sequel to the popular Uncharted franchise. This notion hinges on the premise that the game’s clumsy protagonist, clad in a onesie, is none other than Nathan Drake Jr.

In Baby Steps, developer Bennett Foddy takes his signature painful gameplay mechanics to new heights by transitioning from 2D to 3D environments. Gamers must navigate each painstaking step as they ascend a challenging mountain, with falls incurring significant setbacks.

Initially, Baby Steps, like Foddy’s previous titles, appears to emphasize patience and perseverance. However, further examination reveals a potential narrative that intriguingly intertwines with one of PlayStation’s flagship series.

Could Baby Steps Be a Covert Uncharted Title?

In Uncharted 4, it is revealed that Nathan Drake and Elena Fisher have a daughter named Cassie, but intriguingly, there is no mention of a son. Yet, fans have begun to speculate fervently within the dedicated Baby Steps Discord lore channel, especially following recent discoveries reported by IGN.

In a notable dream sequence, Nate is explicitly referred to as “Nate D.”At another point, he humorously adopts the name “Nathan Bake.”This suggests a playful connection to the Uncharted universe.

Hints within the game further suggest that Nate Jr.may carry Drake’s legacy, indicated by dialogue that reveals he has a sister named Cassie and a father named Nathan, alongside a mother named Elena. These details are too coincidental to ignore.

Dataminers have even found that Nate’s character model in the game is tagged as “Nathan Drake.”Additionally, players have noted subtle allusions, such as the “World’s Best Dad”achievement, which strikingly resembles an older Nathan Drake.

Moreover, a secret thirty-minute cutscene was uncovered, providing fans with insight into the developers’ longing for the Uncharted series. During this sequence, developers can be heard lamenting, “I miss Uncharted. I wish they’d bring it back.”

Despite fans clamoring for validation from the developers, no official statements have clarified the connection. Sony has not endorsed this theory, and the creators at Naughty Dog have yet to confirm any mention of Nathan Drake having a son, particularly one as timid as Nate Jr.

Nevertheless, given that the Uncharted series has been largely dormant since the release of Lost Legacy in 2017, Baby Steps may be an intriguing first step back into the world of Nathan Drake after almost a decade of silence.
