2. Recap of Episode 1 of Gachiakuta
The premiere episode introduces Rudo, a young boy navigating life in the slums of a floating city, where the impoverished are treated like discarded trash. Despite warnings from his adoptive father, Regto, Rudo frequently ventures out to salvage parts and items from garbage. His aspirations are simple yet poignant, including a carefully planned gift for a girl he has feelings for, but everything is thrown into chaos.
Upon returning home, Rudo discovers Regto’s lifeless body. Soon, city guards known as Apostles appear, unjustly accusing Rudo of murder. Despite his claims of innocence, Rudo is cast into the Abyss, a vast pit where discarded objects and people dwell. During the terrifying descent, Rudo grapples with feelings of anger and betrayal and vows to take revenge on the world that has rejected him.
Miraculously, Rudo survives the fall and awakens in a bizarre, polluted landscape populated by monstrous beings. He realizes he is not alone in this treacherous environment, and faces the daunting challenge of survival while seeking a way to reclaim his agency.

4. Overview of Gachiakuta
Residing in the impoverished outskirts of a wealthy city, Rudo and his father, Regto, endure a life steeped in inequality. Rudo’s disdain for the upper class’s extravagance drives him to scavenge for useful items among the town’s refuse. This practice is especially dangerous due to the Abyss—an immense pit into which anything deemed trash, including the living, is thrown. Tragically, Rudo’s biological father was one such victim, falsely accused of murder and discarded.
A fateful encounter with a mysterious figure leads Rudo to discover Regto’s dying form. Despite his protests, he finds himself framed for murder and subsequently thrown into the Abyss. Instead of facing death, he awakens in a grotesque world infested with trash-born monsters.
Just as he faces these creatures, Rudo is rescued by Enjin, who introduces himself as a ‘Cleaner’—a fighter equipped with unique weapons called Vital Instruments. Determined to avenge Regto’s death, Rudo reluctantly joins Enjin in his quest to combat the monsters and find a way back to the surface.
