Samsung is expected to launch a premium edition of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 foldable smartphone in certain markets during September, featuring an enhanced camera equipped with a 200MP sensor.
Despite rumors of Samsung releasing three foldable phones this year, the South Korean smartphone maker only revealed two regular foldable phones at the Galaxy Unpacked event. Interestingly, the third device was noticeably absent.
There were previous speculations that this device would be named either “Galaxy Z Fold 6 Slim”or “Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra.”However, according to well-known leaker Evan Blass, the upcoming smartphone will be officially called the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition.
According to Blass, this upcoming foldable phone will feature a 200MP wide-angle camera with 2x optical zoom. It is worth noting that the Galaxy S25 Ultra currently uses the Isocell HP2 sensor for its 200MP primary camera, and it is possible that Samsung will utilize the same sensor in their new foldable device.
Additionally, Blass states that the upcoming foldable phone will have a thickness of 11mm, making it only 1.1mm slimmer than the standard Galaxy Z Fold 6.
Additionally, he disclosed that the device would feature a primary foldable display of 8 inches and a secondary display measuring 6.5 inches.
Ross Young, an analyst at Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), has also verified the camera specifications. In a recent tweet, Young mentions the camera and states that production is expected to commence in September, with the majority of units being shipped to China.
Furthermore, Young disclosed that in order to address the issue of the screen crease, Samsung plans to utilize Ultra-Foldable Glass (UFC) instead of Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) for the foldable OLED screen. Unlike UTG, UFC has an uneven thickness, with a slightly thicker composition overall and a thinner section near the crease. This results in a more resilient and scratch-resistant display, while still maintaining the smooth folding and unfolding capabilities.
According to another source, the upcoming foldable phone, known as Q6A, is expected to be released in select areas such as South Korea and China. It is rumored to be named W25 in China, while its official name in South Korea is still unknown.
In addition to having a larger screen and improved cameras, the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is reported to have a titanium frame, although it will not have support for the S Pen.
