(G)I-DLE’s Shuhua: Controversies Surrounding Arrogant Statements

The recent introduction of the title song “Klaxon” in (G)I-DLE’s new album by member Shuhua sparked a debate due to accusations of her being “arrogant”when discussing other idols’ music.

“Apologies to the other idols, as (G)I-DLE’s music will be the only one the audience will be listening to this summer,”Shuhua joked. The other members, catching on to her jest, playfully waved their hands in response.

Despite having a summer vibe and being expected to follow the trend of their previous releases, (G)I-DLE’s new song “Klaxon”is currently struggling on Korean music charts.

Despite being released a day ago, the song did not manage to reach the top 20 music charts in Korea. However, it has a high number of playlist counts, which is similar to other well-known fourth-generation groups. Despite this, “Klaxon”only received 338,573 streams. Furthermore, on the day of its release, (G)I-DLE did not make an appearance on Spotify’s global artist chart.

Despite Shuhua’s statement, the decreasing accomplishments only serve to contradict her. The audience perceives her as overly confident and prematurely celebrating her success.

Despite her past statements, the female idol continues to face criticism from viewers who bring up her old comments and argue that they have a negative impact on the group.

During a fancall, a fan excitedly announced to Shuhua that they were getting married. They asked her for a blessing, saying, “I’m getting married soon, can you say something as a blessing?”Despite their enthusiasm, Shuhua’s response was not what the fan expected. She simply replied, “Okay, I hope your marriage lasts a long time,”and laughed.

On a separate occasion, a fan asked Shuhua on Instagram, “I’m short on funds, could you possibly lend me some?”The (G)I-DLE member responded with, “Should I burn some for you?”This caused shock among many, as burning money is typically reserved for the deceased in China.

(G)I-DLE was nominated for Song of the Year at the 2022 Melon Music Awards, but the prize was ultimately given to the girl group IVE. During the event, Shuhua drew attention when she boldly declared, “I am here to accept the Daesang,”referring to the most prestigious award at Korean music award shows.

Despite the ongoing negative debates, there are some voices who stand up for Shuhua and highlight the fact that she has to endure a multitude of hateful comments. In addition, certain viewers have observed that netizens tend to respond positively when male idols make playful comments, but react negatively when Shuhua does the same.
