Gladiator 2 has revealed Pedro Pascal’s portrayal of a villainous Roman general, and from the initial trailer, it is evident that he has disregarded his iconic demise in Game of Thrones.
Pedro Pascal gained widespread recognition for his role as Oberyn Martell, known as the Red Viper of Dorne, in the hit television series Game of Thrones.
Despite being one of the actor’s most highly praised performances, it opened up opportunities for roles in popular projects such as The Last of Us, The Mandalorian, and Fantastic Four.
In the near future, we can expect to see him starring in Gladiator 2 with Paul Mescal, the highly anticipated sequel to Ridley Scott’s award-winning ancient Roman action film. Watch the trailer down below:
In the upcoming movie, Pascal portrays Marcus Acacius, a Roman general who was once trained by Maximus (Russell Crowe), the hero who died in the previous film. Although the trailer primarily showcases Mescal’s character Lucius, we catch glimpses of him battling against Pascal’s character in the colosseum.
The trailer ends on a spine-tingling note, leaving Game of Thrones fans with one burning question: why isn’t Pascal wearing a helmet?
Ultimately, the lasting memory of Oberyn Martell is his gruesome death, which has become his defining moment. In Season 4, he willingly serves as Tyrion’s champion in a battle against Gregor Clegane, also known as the Mountain.
Despite being equipped with only light armor and his spear, he is able to momentarily overpower his opponent. As he confidently walks around the fallen Mountain, he demands a confession for his sister’s murder. However, Clegane swiftly strikes back, crushing his skull with a force comparable to a pumpkin being smashed.
One user questioned, “Why is Pedro not wearing a helmet? Hasn’t he learned from his time on Game of Thrones?”Another commented, “Pedro is still not wearing a helmet in the arena.”
“As Pedro’s character fought without a helmet, a third person commented, ‘We’ve been here before, haven’t we?’ on the post.”
The release date for Gladiator 2 is November 22, when it will hit cinemas.
