A Dream Role Turned into a Nightmare

Go Joon revealed, “It was the role I had dreamed of for so long.”However, after completing about two-thirds of the film, he experienced a sudden onset of partial paralysis, shocking his friends and viewers alike.

Health Crisis Explained

Detailing the circumstances, Go Joon explained that his dedication to the role led to a weakened immune system, ultimately resulting in shingles.“Typically, shingles affects the body, but in my case, it spread to my brain, which caused the paralysis, ”he shared.

To Say the Situation

Go Joon described the gravity of his situation, saying, “If you miss the six-month golden period, the aftereffects can last a lifetime.”With seven months slipping by and his body unresponsive, he consulted seven different hospitals. Six of them delivered grim news, suggesting he might never act again. This left him feeling that he had lost both his dream and his career yet again.

Pushing Through the Pain

Despite his debilitating condition, Go Joon remained determined to finish the film. He recounted the challenges he faced, particularly how the muscles on the paralyzed side of his face sagged. To compensate, he employed a wire structure inside his mouth, which led to severe discomfort and bleeding.“It wasn’t fitted perfectly, resulting in multiple NGs, ”he said.

Support from the Production Team

The production crew played an integral role in his ability to complete the project.“They were incredibly considerate, changing the storyboard to ensure most of my scenes were shot from one side, ”Go Joon noted. This thoughtful alteration meant that viewers see his profile in several scenes, a fact that surprised fellow guests Park Kyung Lim and Lee Sang Joon, prompting them to reconsider the film with fresh perspectives.

After getting sick, my outlook changed; I just want to spread joy.”
