Gojo reigns supreme in 4th Jujutsu Kaisen popularity poll despite Akutami’s manipulations

On Thursday, June 6, 2024, along with the circulation of spoilers and raw scans for the upcoming official release, the outcome of the 4th Jujutsu Kaisen popularity poll was leaked. This news was revealed by @Go_Jover (Myamura), a trusted source for series updates, who also shared updates on Gege Akutami’s current health condition.

Although the complete results of the latest and 4th Jujutsu Kaisen popularity poll were not revealed, Myamura did disclose the top three rankings to fans, which included some well-known characters. Coming in third place is Megumi Fushiguro, followed by protagonist Yuji Itadori in second place, and clinching the top spot for the first time in the series’ history is Satoru Gojo.

4th Poll Shows Fans’ Favorite Character in Jujutsu Kaisen is Also the Mangaka’s Least Favorite

Surprisingly, Gojo had not achieved a ranking higher than second place in any of the three previous polls and had not received more than 17 thousand votes in any of them. Although the vote tally for the 4th Jujutsu Kaisen popularity poll has not been disclosed, it is highly probable that Gojo has finally surpassed this hurdle with a first place win, taking into account the vote counts from past polls.

Despite Gojo’s shocking win, it is not entirely unexpected given the mangaka’s recent actions. In the past weeks and months, the character had been removed from the story through his death, only making brief appearances in flashbacks. The latest official release for the series has all but confirmed that Gojo will not return in a contemporary sense. While it is unlikely that Akutami had intentionally killed off Gojo for personal reasons, his disdain for the character is well-documented.

Surprisingly, this marks Gojo’s first win despite him being widely regarded as one of the most beloved characters in the series, based solely on word-of-mouth. However, this long-awaited victory has finally come to fruition with the release of the latest popularity poll. Although Myamura’s results are not officially confirmed, fans can anticipate the official 4th Jujutsu Kaisen popularity poll to confirm his information upon its release on Monday, June 10.

Additionally, there is curiosity surrounding the rankings of other prominently featured characters in the 4th Jujutsu Kaisen popularity poll, such as Fumihiko Takaba, Yuta Okkotsu, Hiromi Higuruma, Aoi Todo, Choso, Maki Zen’in, and others. While these polls may not be the sole determiner of fan opinion, they often provide insight into the overall sentiment, particularly among Japanese fans.

Akutami’s debut manga series debuted in March 2018 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, where it is currently ongoing and regularly published. In 2020, the series was adapted into an anime by MAPPA Studios, with the second season set to air in the latter half of 2023. A third season is already in the works.
